Hi there!

RWR version 0.99 marks the spot where we consider feature development, and largely content too, complete for what comes to the single player/small scale coop campaign. From this point on, only minor changes will go through into that part of the game, some vehicle texture work, more AI dialogue, tweaking map and campaign win moments, things like that.

RWR 0.99

That means that the campaign is becoming complete with 9 regular maps and 2 special maps for final missions, with the very final mission being introduced in this update. The other major addition this time is the faction specific vehicle models for APC, tank and jeep. Big thanks go to harrified for the two new tank models, awesome work there.

RWR 0.99

Other than those, there have been several fixes, some new support added for stuff specific to the new final mission, and new stuff for modding; see the change log over here.

What's next then? Possibility for remote profiles / profile sharing and online Invasion teamkill penalty mode have been hot topics lately, which I will be working on for the next weeks targeting 0.99.1 update still on this year's side. Minimodes development continues as well, as does the usability tweaking.

In other news, RWR made it to top 100 here in indiedb's own Indie of the Year 2014! Voting is still going on for about a day, so if you haven't voted RWR yet, now's the time!

Can you see the standalone tar.gz package for the game in Desura website, at least?

I believe the fact that the branch release, which works with the Desura client, hasn't been approved yet results in the message you're getting. If the problem persists once the branch release has been approved, I'll look into it.

From my experience, approval in Desura may seriously drag during a weekend, but there has been positive exceptions to this too. I'd expect the branch release to be approved latest on Monday, unless there's something wrong in it that I need to provide a fix for.

I do recommend using the standalone version in the meantime.

The standalone releases for Linux, both demo and full, have been approved by Desura now, and at least browsing on Windows with Linux selected as platform at the top of the page, I can access Beta TAR.GZ 36,84mb to download the full binary release.

"Crossplay" has been enabled between Windows and Linux releases, so purchasing one will gain you access to the other.

Desura "branch" releases for Linux have not yet been approved, which is why you can't install the game in Desura client quite yet. I believe this is also the reason it's not yet in the games main menu.

Just to say it out loud, 0.76 demo and full beta builds for both Windows and Linux are still in the Desura approval queue.

Meanwhile, the new demo for both platforms is available here Modulaatio.com

There's now a demo available for Linux here Modulaatio.com

If you're trying it, let us know how it's working for you! We are especially curious about any possible launch issues or graphics glitches.

I know at least my ATI didn't support high enough Cg profiles to handle the soldier rendering in the optimal way, but it might be just my ATI or my drivers :)

it works well but with no antialiasing or vsync but all other things are enabled and it works well on my 8400gs card and this game really has potentials really cool. its actually unique since it show how street war is. when i chose 2 in antialiasing the game will get slower but still okey to play

Just tried it and made sure the libraries listed were installed, but when I tried to run I got this error:

error while loading shared libraries: libOgreMain.so.1.7.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I have 1.7.4 of the libogre libraries, but I cant find the older ones anywhere.

Did you launch the game with the launch_game -script?

libOgreMain.so.1.7.2 is included in lib-subfolder, and the launch script should make it possible for the system to find the included libs.

Ah ok whoops lol. Used the launch_config (and tried launch_game) and am getting this error:

error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk2u_core-2.8.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I used the apt-get line in the readme, although I am on 64-bit

Ok good, that's one step forward, zero back :)

libwx_gtk2u_core-2.8.so.0 is required by the GUI config, and it needs to be the 32-bit version. My understanding is that a 64-bit os installs 64-bit libs by default, so you may need to install it with "apt-get install libwxgtk2.8-0:i386" instead.

I believe you need to do the same with the other dependency packages too.

That's awesome news then!

If it's not too much trouble, when you're done playing, could you send me the file data/rwr_game.log to pasi.kainiemi@modulaatio.com? I'd like to peek a little bit what is it that you're getting in the graphics capabilities department.

I couldn't get my ATI behave as well as I would've wanted, and couldn't get my hands on a Linux with NVIDIA to try how certain things are doing.

This is a great game. I've described it to friends as a combination between General Chaos, Cannon Fodder, a rather obscure but innovative game called Net War and once vehicles are added, even a touch of Warhawk. On top of all of this, the developer is great and really listens to the community.
