Pick up your rifle and join the Green or Grey army in their mission to send the enemy home in a box! RUNNING WITH RIFLES is an open world, top-down, tactical shooter for single player and multiplayer online, that puts you right in the middle of chaos in towns, trenches and forests turned into ruthless battlefields, controlling just one soldier in an army of several hundreds. In a war where men die like flies and endless streams of reinforcements run to fill the void, it takes tactics and marksmanship to capture territories effectively. The open world nature of the game enables you to use a multitude of approaches to help the front line move – it's up to you to shape your role. Experience the complete arc starting as a private hardening into a high ranking officer with a squad under command, arming yourself with a variety of weapons and vehicles on your way to glory!

RWR 0.87 continues on the path of extending support in multiple development areas, see the full change log. We've now got our second radio call request type in addition to the good old mortar strike: paratrooper reinforcements! This one will certainly help to organize those surprise attacks against the less defended enemy bases away from the main battle area, and thus actually succeed in capturing them too. Just watch out for enemy comms truck, it'll jam your radio :P
Another highlight in 0.87 is the tank: two gunner seats, one with MG and the other with rocket shooting cannon, with tracked steering. We haven't polluted all the maps with this beast in fear of it being overly overpowered, but we'll see how it ends up being. At least on InvasionUS yesterday, a few of us happened to start the invasion from Suburbs, blessing us with the tank, but we still had to fight hard the swarming Greys coming at us. The havoc was awesome, but in the end we certainly took a beating that time :D
We've also added cargo trucks here and there in Invasion, the main objective outline being to locate the enemy cargo truck, steal and deliver it safe near an armory at a friendly base. Great thing is that it's handled as a server side script module, allowing us to tweak it on the fly without client side updates required from players.
Beneath the hood, the battle system has gone through some nice upgrades, basically allowing more than 2 factions in battles now. We've yet to set everything up so that it would be easy to choose the faction setup in the UI, and actually we don't have assets other than Green and Greys at this point, but we should come around to it sooner than later. In the meantime it should be possible to use the skin mods and set those battles up manually, would love to hear about it if someone gets to try it!

This is a great game. I've described it to friends as a combination between General Chaos, Cannon Fodder, a rather obscure but innovative game called Net War and once vehicles are added, even a touch of Warhawk. On top of all of this, the developer is great and really listens to the community.

I just bought this game, its currently downloading, just wanted to know (ill still love the game anyway) whats the online community like in terms of numbers? im not even entirely sure how the multiplayer works (as i said, the game is currently downloading :p) and what is lag like? Would just be interested to know, im still going to play it :D

the online community isn't very big yet for now. There a often a few guys playing online but rarely more than 3-4 at the same time for now.
We'll be calling in players for another big match soon, we'll keep you posted
Hey thanks guys, yeah ive been playing this non stop for like 8 hours now, and im having a lot of fun. I did check the server list, and there were, as you said Pasik, those two US and finland servers. I live in australia, so i doubt my ping would be ideal, so i havnt tried playing online yet. And when i did check, there was one player on each server, so i decided it wasnt worth the lag. In any case, the game is a heap of fun, and ill probably check out the multiplayer soon.
Also, on a sidenote, why a server based in finland? seems a bit random haha
anddddddd on a side side note, where can i find (if there is) planned features for the finished game. Forum, im most guessing?

the server in Finland is the first official server (Pasik's Laptop running at his home).
For the features and stuff you might check the official homepage about section, it helps sometimes :p ( Modulaatio.com ), as long with the Tutorial ( Modulaatio.com ).
There is also a tool that allows you to be informed how many players are online ( Modulaatio.com ).
Would be cool if you could tell us what ping you have to the US and Finland server, as the aussies actually aren't the smallest RWR community out there.

Ive just played on the US server, and im not sure what my ping is (dont know how to check) but it is definatly playable, will all guns except the sniper being very non laggy. only with the sniper do i notice bullet lag, resulting in having to lead targets a bit more.
I havnt tried the finland one, but thats EU, so it will be much greater lag i would suspect.
Also, just a question, if you have played on the US server, does it change map? the game i was in, we'd just won, but the server restared, no map change. It was the winter map
There's a crash that bugs me the F*** off, basically i go to servers list, nothing show up so i refresh about 30 times until it show up, join a game then insta-crash.
Does the crash say anything about a crash dump? If it does, you could locate the crashdump and send it to pasi.kainiemi@modulaatio.com, I'd take a look at it.
If it says something about a log, I'd be interested about that log too, the location is told on the crash dialog.
No update this week, been compiling a new promotional video mostly.
Also the Linux server-side vehicle steering sync issue is now fixed.
Work for 0.74 will start tomorrow.
