It has more motors than wings!!

No seriously how much fuel does that thing consumes, it's like if they were designing it and said "-It doesn't lift. -Put two engines more and see what happens..."

Also it has too litle wingspan and so many motors make a lot of weight so if you lose all eight you can say goodbye to glide.

TypicalRussianIvan May 12 2014, 12:03pm replied:

It shouldn't fly, this thing was created as a low-flying naval transport(Just about 10-15 meters over the water). It was faster than a typical transport ship and could carry a bigger amount of different vehicles and ****. The main purpose of Ekranoplan was the thing that it was flying low enough to stay in the radars' "blind zone" and at the same time it wasn't touching water so it couldn't be detected by sonar stations. Also, this transport could be equipped with 6 strategic missiles on it's back so it could become a fast flying stealth nuclear MLRS.

Breaking all the canons about military transport planes, the Grifoen is not just an another technological curiousity, but a new stage of evolution of rapid cargo delivery worldwide. Grifoens allow EU to control allied and aligned territories far outside the European mainland.
Wherever it’s used - from EU Antarctic possessions to hot deserts of Chad, it proved to give EU an upper hand in concentrating troops and technical reliability (and became the reason Russians started developing a replacement for their classical Il-76 Candid). The plane’s reliability is bolstered by 8 engines. Even if Grifoen for some reasons loses 5 of those - it will still be able to hold long enough in the air.
There were cases when Russian SPAAGs in war-torn Ostslavia incapacitated 6 engines of the plane and it still managed to hold long enough to land in the nearest EU controlled zone in Lithuania.
