Hi Desura community! :)

I'm proud to announce that the full version of my game "Rico - A Tale Of Two Brothers" is finally released! It's available for Windows, Mac and Linux. And if you like to play on a mobile device, there's an Android version too!

Rico - A Tale Of Two Brothers is a retro inspired platformer that mixes elements from many great classics like Pitfall, Super Mario, Castlevania and Knytt with my own humble ideas. A game with a nostalgic feeling while still staying fresh. I wanted to create something I would have loved to play as a child and still love to play now!

Rico features 32 levels, boss battles, collectible crystals, numerous different enemies and traps, 4 difficulty levels and a catchy chiptune soundtrack by Bunnymajs!

If you're interested, head over to the Desura page to get it! There's also a demo version that lets you play the first 8 levels including the first boss fight for free, so why not try it out? :)

Thanks for your time!

Hey I'm on Mac 10.8 (mountain lion) with the most recent version of java installed. but it seems the game opens but closes immediately after a small window shows up. Did anyone else have this issue?

Hi!
Could you run it from a terminal with the command "java -jar runRIco.jar" from the directory it is installed in? That should give you an error message on what's going wrong.

i get this error

JavaVM WARNING: JAWT_GetAWT must be called after loading a JVM
_NSJVMLoadLibrary: NSAddLibrary failed for /libjawt.dylib
JavaVM FATAL: lookup of function JAWT_GetAWT failed. Exit

i feel like it's something with my computer since it's been doing some odd things lately. I have repaired permissions and rebooted and the basic stuff.

Yeah, that looks like the fault is your Java installation. Can't help you with that, sorry! :(

so apparently there is a compatibility issue with lwjgl and java 7 for OSX. I'm not sure exactly the best fix for this right now since I have to have java 7 for my intro to java class. I will let you know when I get things working properly.

I have this really annoying bug. I'm on level 7 and after starting the game freezes to pause screen.

That is... really strange! When exactly does it happen? When you start the level? Or at some point during the level?

I played the game with my laptop on win 7. I was adjusting laptop's sound with it's own shortcut (Fn + F12). After that the game paused itself and none of the buttons on the pause screen didn't work. The same screen occurs when loading any level from level selection. It is really weird. Though i can play after installing the game again. Hope that helps somewhat.

Why is this game still under Alphafunding? You should talk to Desura about that.

Thanks, I'll contact Desura! It's strange however, because it doesn't always show up as alphafunding...

Is this an appropriate place to report a couple bugs?

1. Rico Bonus Levels from IGS won't start. If I launch it in Win x64 (even as Admin) I get the initial 4 'Empty' save boxes and when I click on them nothing happens. Button is visibly pressed on the screen but no reaction occurs thereafter. Saving seems to work fine on the main Desura game.

2. On the Desura version gamepad support doesn't seem to work with the Microsoft Xbox Wireless Controllers. The analog stick isn't recognized for L/R movement (which is fine), but the DPAD has a bug: When you are prompted to set the controller's controls in the menu you press L on the DPAD, then R on the DPAD, etc. but ingame any push on the DPAD makes you move RIGHT. So you cannot move left at all. Disabling gamepad and using keyboard works fine.

Thanks for being so responsive here, IMakeGames! Please let me know if you need any debug info from me.

Hi!
Thanks for the bug reports! :)

About 1.: what SHOULD be happening is the same 4 savegame slots in the bonus game as in the main game. That means, if you have a savegame at a slot in the main game, it should also show up in the bonus game. Is that not the case? You also need to start the bonus game as the same (Windows) user as you play the main game, because the savegames are bound to the user.

About 2.: yes, it's unfortunately a known bug. I can fix this in the next couple of days hopefully! Sorry for the inconvenience! :(

I hadn't started a new game on Desura yet.. was playing mostly on Android. Didn't realize it needed a main savegame to work off of. Tried starting a new game on Desura and sure enough, bonus levels work (well, they're all locked but how it functions is clear now). Thanks!
