Resistance Force is team based multiplayer FPS game with focus on close combat and realism. The game is still in development, currently fully playable alpha version is released.

Current alpha version features:

  • single life, no respawn during round
  • two teams fighting against each other (specops vs terrorists)
  • four maps with objective (bombing, terrorists have to plant bomb in one of possible targets)
  • currently two guns and explosive grenade
  • firing directly with your gun using iron sights, no crosshair
  • realistic environment and lighting
  • custom engine designed and optimized for the game
  • ragdoll physics
  • auto-update system

New version is available, adding dynamic shadows to point lights, weapon recoil, updates to Central map and other improvements and bug fixes.

We now also have the ability to download custom content when joining a server, and there is already one community map available by Leiche. You can test it by joining the community server and using map vote to choose the map.

Models are created in Blender and textures in GIMP. The whole game was created on Linux only. I have custom export script from Blender, so you'll have to import through some common 3D format from other modelling programs.

But it's too early to contribute anything, it would actually make the work more complicated for me. In future there will be modding support.

Not at all :) Well maybe a little as it's set in pretty similar theme. But this game has many details different, creating different style of game play than in CS:S. It's slower paced, more realistic for example. And it attracts different types of players than CS:S. For example I've never played CS:S and don't like it (nor my friends). I've played only original CS for just few moments many years ago.

While UDK is nice, it doesn't solve everyone needs :) It supports Windows only (no Mac or Linux), it's targetted to more powerful GPUs and computers, doesn't allow native code (just UnrealScript which I'm not big fan of), no engine sources that are required for many things that I do differently than in most engines, even if it was available the Unreal engine is so huge and complicated it would take ages to adjust it, the tools are too complex, etc. etc.

To summary, with own engine I have complete control of development of the game and have the most creativity freedom.
