"We have waited centuries for this moment. The rivers will flow with the blood of those who oppose us." - Kane

Renegade X: Black Dawn - January Teaser - Mod DB

The conflict between the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) and the Brotherhood of Nod originated in the late twentieth century, when a meteor carrying a mysterious substance struck the Tiber river in Italy. It was named Tiberium, which composed of valuable elements. Although Tiberium has proven to be an important source of income when refined, it is fatally toxic, and its contagious spread threatens all life on earth.

GDI was formed in 1985 by the United Nations as an international security force set to combat global terrorism. Conceived as a united peacekeeping military force, GDI depends on the technological sophistication of its weaponry, and the superior training and loyalties of its officers.

At the same time, the Brotherhood of Nod, led by the charismatic Kane, grew to prominence. Working largely in third world countries, wherever there was discontent and unrest, there was Kane. With the promise of a New World Order and bankrolled by the illicit Tiberium research and trade that Kane made famous, Nod began to gain power. A few scattered, disaffected units grew into an army with powerful atomic weaponry, ruthless tactics, and a Tiberian fortune.

Where GDI stands for international stability and the containment of Tiberium's expansive spread, Nod seeks to overthrow the established order and build a world centred on Tiberium research.

Renegade X

Renegade X is a tactical First and Third Person Shooter with Real Time Strategy elements, set in the Command & Conquer universe. It is a high quality award-winning free indie game being created on the Unreal Development Kit. Originally, Renegade X was an Unreal Tournament 3 mod, and the beta won six awards, including "#2 Best Vehicle Set" for the Making Something Unreal Contest, "#3 Best Upcoming Mod" for the Mod of the Year Contest in 2008, and "#2 Best Multiplayer" in 2009's MOTY.

In 2010, Totem Arts made the decision to make Renegade X a standalone game, available to everyone. Since then, the team has released a singleplayer mini-campaign called Operation Black Dawn. Black Dawn was released in January 2012, and it is a demonstration of what's to come. We are currently developing the awaited multiplayer version, which has yet to be released.

Feature List

  • Two Unique Factions that differ in weapons, vehicles, and gameplay style

What's up?

We are happy to announce that Beta 5 will be the final Renegade X beta. This is the last phase of beta testing. The next version of Renegade X will be the Full Version! It's been a few months since our last beta version, and we've been tinkering around, polishing up, and planning for the future. Totem Arts has been developing this game for about nine years now, and it is almost ready for that One-Point-Oh. We will be announcing its final release date soon.

That being said, Totem Arts will still be supporting the full game upon release. The SDK allows our community to build their own server mods, total conversion mods and custom maps. The autopatching system allows us to make easy and continual upgrades to the game. We have also appointed a group of Community Developers who will receive the support and direction of Totem Arts. We plan on making one more big community announcement in the very near future, and hosting a cash-prize Renegade X clan tournament upon the release of the full version.

Although we have a pretty stable playerbase, we are looking for ways to increase our exposure. If you have any ideas, go ahead and post them on this thread. You can do your part by sharing our updates with your friends, uploading videos, e-mailing gaming websites, and messaging popular YouTube gamers. We're doing our part, but keep in mind that this is a free project, and we can use any help we can get from our community!

We and our community have been actively discussing ways we can improve the RenX experience. Join the discussion, we're listening and involved: viewforum.php?f=13

Our SDK has thousands of downloads, and we are already seeing some cool custom maps and mutators being developed. Check those out here: Renegade-x.com

Would like to know, if there will be future inclusions on the mod, like Classic Tibrian Dawn vehicles, like the lovely Attack Bike for the NOD, used to love those things, fast and strong, weak armor.
Would be a good thing for NOD since GDI win most of the time, not really a big things as in the game itself, it was able to be taken down by 2 or 3 rifleman.

While the game is lovely, it has a few gameplay issues that should be addressed. One of which is the very sharp infantry movements. There's no weight to the players, so gunfights are boiled down to mashing A+D while spray-and-praying a tiberium rifle.

To fix that it may be a good idea to make movements take just a little more time to accelerate towards the direction the player wants to move. It will make earlier weapons continue to influence combat, rather than be immediately tossed aside for the Tiberium Rifle, or another weapon with area of effect damage.

So far so good, a bit of feedback:

> Is it actually possible to have buildings that are destroyed when they are destroyed? It looks silly to see a building get hit by the ion cannon only to have it still standing there afterwards perfectly intact with a few scorchmarks. This annoyed me in the original Renegade as well.

> Can you please make a proper nuke effect for the nuclear strike? The nuke in Renegade looked poor and the one in this iteration is equally underwhelming. The particles are there for a reason, please use them.

Personally I think nuke shloud be changed to some non-nuke warhead, I know it will be not canon, but such <nuke> looks silly. Anyway this is not a Renegade remake anymore.

it's not a renegade remake, you're right, it's what renegade 3 would have been.

Lowest Rated (15 agree) 3/10

I played through half of the campaign and suffered through two system lockups which required shutting down my computer via the power button. The graphics were pretty decent... Comparable to games from 2008-2009, but the overall (lack of) brightness makes it difficult to discern any details in their work. It seems pointless to me to put so much effort into environments and then make them so dark that you can't see what you're doing without jacking up the gamma in your video card control panel. AI…
