Command & Conquer Red Alert 2: Apocalypse Rising, brings Westwood Studios' popular real time strategy game, C&C: Red Alert 2 into the FPS pespective, using the w3d engine. You will be able to experience, first hand, what it feels like to fill the boots of an Allied GI battling the communist might of the Soviet Union, or a Soviet Conscript vowing to take back what was lost to the Allies during the first great war. Classic units return such as the versatile Allied IFV to the mighty Soviet Apocalypse Assualt Tank to the gargantuan Allied Aircraft Carrier to the mad Giant Squids. This game features all of the units and structures for the Allied and Soviet sides from both RA2 and the Yuri's Revenge Expansion. The Apocalypse is Rising Commander. Are you prepared for it? (Credit goes to everyone who has donated and contributed to this mod. We shall not let you down).

In this Apocalypse Rising blog we have the Soviet Conscripts, Rocketeer Jetpack and the Soviet Service Depot.

Conscript Updates

The conscript is well underway now and, frankly, he needs no more introduction. Currently he's sitting pretty at about 4595 polygons. I've posed him a little differently to how I used to pose infantry that I made. This new pose is known as the “A” pose as opposed to the old “T” pose. It’s a bit of an experiment really, since I don't believe that anyone has tried rigging a w3d in the “A” pose before.
“But what are the advantages?”, I hear you say. Well, for one thing, the “A” pose is a lot more natural than the “T” pose, so the model starts out looking, overall, a lot more human. This also helps with the character is rigged, because you can essentially get more natural looking movements. When this guy gets rigged, we'll find out whether it has paid off or not.
I'm also thinking of re-working the gas mask shown in the image below, so any suggestions/images would be very welcome.

Rocketeer Jetpack Update

Poggel has been modelling up the Rocketeer's jetpack and has posted a few updates since last week's blog. Some simple colouring has been done on the second image, but nothing final yet.

Soviet Service Depot

rm5248 has been working on the Soviet Service Depot. The model is getting very near final, but it will require some accuracy-to-RA2 moderation (which will probably be carried out by dtrngd).

We are looking for extra staff members to join our ranks! What we are looking for in a 2d artist, is someone who:

  • is enthusiastic about working with the BHP Apocalypse Rising Team.
  • has spare time.
  • will be active in the foreseeable future (a.k.a we don't want you running off).
  • is competent at creating their own 2d textures.
  • is over the age of 16 (we overlook this if you are what we assess to be a mature individual. This rule is known as the TruYuri rule).

PM One_Winged_Angel with your application stating why you would like to join the team along with any past experience. Please provide example textures, if you have any.

I think you should add a cube with a brick texture under the repair crane thing itself. The crane looks like it doesn't have much to support it.
