[REC] Shutter..

is a horror game made by KGames - Solo Indie DeveloperKGames is a independent game maker only worked on by one developer, Me known as Kumi. It was founded in 2011 as KumiGames (later changed to KGames) and [REC] Shutter is my first officially released game.

[REC] Shutter.. is a horror game where you must progress through levels while avoiding paranormal and solving puzzles. The story will progress as the player goes through the levels. This Game will focus not only you recording Even his Story and his Life. You take the role of a Reporter named Connor, which will be reporting Penny hill a Dark Hunted Asylum. You will be equipped with the latest equipment; Animated camera which includes night vision and a Shutter effect. Filming every action you take and taking screenshot's of paranormal Activity. Game will include feature's like Fear, Stealth, investigation And much much more.

Health System: The player has a low amount of health, and will die after around 4 hits from an enemy. The player's health will be monitored by the cracks on the camera screen. This means you're camera is damaged and you need to fix it, To Fix it in some levels you will find a Repair box, Use this to fix you're camera cracks. Camera cracks will only disappear when You fix it via an toolbox. If the player dies, he will drop to the ground and the screen will fade to black. The game will then automatically load the last saved game.

Panic System: If something paranormal happens, the player's panic level will increase. Staring at enemies will also cause the panic level to increase. A higher panic level means the player becomes harder to control due to Fear. The player will also occasionally shake when panic levels are high. Fear decrease when a safe area is reached. Also Pills can be taken to decrease panic level.

Inventory System: The player has an inventory to store items such as health packs, Pill, and keys. This means the player can use the items when they choose, rather than forcing them to use them at a specific time.

Movement system: The player will slowly walk and can sprint a little quickly. This means walking is slow enough to easily investigate, and sprinting is fast enough to escape enemies. Stamina will be unlimited.

Camera System: Pressing F will activate Night Vision to make it easier for the player to see in dark areas. Press the right mouse button will make the camera take a picture - sound plays and white HUD fades out. An objective could be to take photos of items.

Save/Load System: Auto save zones will automatically save the game when the player enters them. Resuming game in the menu will automatically load the last auto save.

Investigate System: clicking the mouse button means the player investigates the item. clicking again causes the item to be picked up.

Stealth system: Pressing V will activate stealth system, where the players see where is darker hide from The paranormal.

Zooming system: Pressing R to zoom in and T to zoom out. This will help you check for objects and see things more clearly before going in the way!

[REC] Shutter website is now updated

[REC] Shutter itself didn't get any updates, as I mentioned the game was stopped for a while and for now, it won't be continued (Maybe someday it will be continued) . However, I'm going through websites and IndieDB and updating the sites for my games, you can now check the new website for [REC] Shutter along with the new website for KGames, many thanks for all your support. Also, now donations are accepted for whoever wishes to support a lonely developer in game making.

"[REC] Shutter is now stopped in development, I apologize and I wish to thank you all for the support and those who supported me and my first game project [REC] Shutter. You can still download the game from the official website and play through the 4-level "demo" and imagine your own ending."

Accepting Donations:

As a Indie Developer who works alone, I spend most of my time creating games and working on my games. Both of my released games are free of charge! Everybody loves free games right?

Creating a Indie game will some time cost money for certain reasons, example: engines or even models and so on. Since I only work alone on my games, I will have to put everything by myself which will eventually take time, but with this little donation you will be a big help to me and encourage me to continue working on more projects for you to enjoy!

Donations aren't necessary but it's greatly appreciated and will be a big support to a solo indie game developer. All donations will go forward to game making development.
Thanks for your generosity, and for being awesome!

Just want to donate any amount? Any amount is helpful, you decide!

Hello Kumi!

I've played the demo (took me about 30 minutes) and I'm in the process of editing it together to be put up on my channel.

Here's how the game came accross to me. It's very difficult to see, not so much due to the darkness (I love darkness in games..I play as many horror games as I can) but it's from the static, it's a bit much. I would either make it an option to turn it off, or turn it down quite a bit.

Another thing, looking through the camera is a great idea..but it's far too small. I would increase the camera size to nearly the size of the entire screen, as there's much wasted space around the outside of its view.

Another thing, picking up objects is bugged and requires spamming the enter key to pick them up.

There's so many different ideas to reinforce the use of nightvision while still having the ability to use a flashlight..for example; the closer you are to monsters/paranormal events, the dimmer the flashlight becomes and eventually stops working(forcing you to use the night vision)

Raedwulfgamer Nov 6 2012, 6:25pm replied:

It does help for sure. I used the night vision for most of the game :) I actually enjoyed the game but the buggy engine it's running off of had some disappointments. For example when I opened a door to reveal a monster, he continuously walked into a chair without navigating around it so I was able to get away without problems. Perhaps the camera can have a flashlight attatchment..but of course keep the nightvision..but maybe the nightvision should have a deeper purpose..for example, because nightvision is working in a spectrum of light not visible to human eyes without technology..perhaps the use of nightvision can be used to examine clues, or even see glimpses of ghostly apparitions to give it a deeper purpose. The reason I say to have a flashlight is that it doesn't make sense for someone to go into an obviously dark place, without something to illuminate it

Yeah i know, i Worked hard on this game. It was my first, I Had a Flashlight along with the Nightvision, And a Screenshot effect too. But it didin't go so well cause if i used them i had to update the engine, and if i updated the engine it was buggy, so i coulden't build levels. Well i could but you will be stuck in level 1 and it will crash when you'll go to level 2, So i had to Re-scadule all stuff and Puted only nightvision in there. For now, I Will try to put some more features in it and work on this flashlight too mabye i will find a way to make it who knows. Thanks Again,

This game is beautiful, Though the 'walking' seems slowish, it fits perfectly in with the over all world and atmosphere of the game. I honestly cannot complain because the speed is perfect. I'm sure if anyone of us were to go to a asylum that was spooky we would all walk slow. Honestly this man has balls becuase I would sit in a corner for 10 minutes if somethingwas chasing me and leave. So the walking is perfect for those who are complaining about it becuase it fits how a actually person would…

How anyone considers this a game is beyond me. Not only is there not a single puzzle(other than trying to properly see with horrible light physics) but it is extremely short. It's very choppy with no objective or story. It's like hey walk from A to B and let me through in a few jump scares because that isn't new... It's free so I can't say I feel cheated I just got what I paid for.
