In 1997 Quake II was released ending the Strogg's collective leader the Makron being killed. Quake III moves away from the Strogg, but the universe's worst cybernetic foes return in Quake IV, ready to be destroyed yet again by Earth's forces. Quake II left the Strogg home planet without its planetary defenses, leaving it open for your attack as part of Earth's new armada. You help deliver the final assault to the Strogg as Matthew Kane, member of an elite squad fighting along squadmates with vehicles and advanced weaponary.
Quake IV is based on the Doom III engine, although it is apparent that Quake IV will be a superior modding platform thanks to iD and Raven's efforts in optimizing the netcode, adding vehicles, and general fixes made to the engine since Doom III's release.

I’ve promised Quake 3 mods… I lied [insert evil laugh here]. Unfortunately most of the mods are kind of dead, since the active players have gone to QL. You can see people tho in Q3: if they can hit a moving target they go play cpma duel, if they can’t hit a moving target… well… they still have excessive plus with bfg spamming. To be honest, e+ has a lot of extremely good features, and people use it to this. Simply waste of code. But good news, I’ve updated some of the mod profiles and added a few to Q3/4.
Anyways, I’ve decided to make a big pack instead, including all the active mods and engine updates, community mappacks, hudeditors, custom texturepacks…and after packing all that should be necessary, a 3gb of raw community stuff was zipped into one bigass file. I’ve enabled the hd texturepack, and bloom (!), and Q3 seemed really sexy to be honest. So I thought it’s time to make a vid of all the proper graphical updates for the Quake series:
Epsilon: A standalone Quake 1. Totally legit and awsome work. Pure community stuff, also they have added retextured oldschool mods. Fckn A
Berserker: It’s a bit buggy (at least the 1.36 version I tested), but looks really neat, especially the water. I will upload the new 1.38 full version in the days, and gonna make a Maverick Servers mirror, cause the moddb servers are working at twice the speed as they used to, cause the european players are now not equal to other nations on the world, and they are not allowed to download stuff from Filefront (i mean Gamefront). Seriously eu players, shame on you for living there.
Excessive Dawn + Metal Tech + HRCCTRP (High Resolution Creative Commons Texture Replacement Pack Is Not A Practical Name For A Texturepack): Excessive dawn guys have made an excellent 64bit exe for q3, also they implemented bloom from Alien Arena. I’ve merged the other two texturepacks to one, and changed some ugly textures (like the black railgun, or the weird jumppad) = profit
Sikkmod: We all know the ups and downs of the sikkmod, but it’s still better to play the singleplayer, then without it…them glares are really sexy.

Quake 4 is a good follow up to Quake 2, where the storyline is somewhat following where Quake 2 left off. For a single player game Quake 4 is really good and entertaining, and will provide several hours of fun. But if you look at the multiplayer perspective of the game, it has a lot to learn from former games and other games within the genre. The game overall has a lot to offer, tons of fun but also isn't reaching it's full potential. This is where mods like Q4Run, Q4Max, GameType-Revolution and…

I wish there was no vehicles :/
I really see quake 4 opening up alot of doors in the world of ID and modding. Doom 3 had alot of shortcommings that I really can see quake 4 (and ET:QW) fixing.
It was great. I was very apprehensive about it, after thinking it'd be Doom 3 bu with the Strogg. But i was wrong!
The levels are fantastic and the array of enemies is great. The AI isn't all that but doens't need to be (as the strogg are build like tanks) You run from them, not the other way round.
The weapons were spot on, tho a few seemed underpowered (liek the dark matter gun and the lighting gun) and each weapon is useable throught the entire game, unlike others where the machine gun only has it uses at the start and you'll only pull out your pistol once.
Storyline was simple and concise, tho stil very enjoyable. It also seemed i was forever on the cusp of having no ammo, which certainly added to the experiace. The mid game twist was awesome too.
Graphics. well amazing seeing as it's on the D3 engine. And the pacing was just right. It was just long enough to keep my attention gripped tightly and whn in finished there was a great sense of acomplishment. Now i just can't wait for the expansion!
