Project Zomboid is an open-ended zombie-infested sandbox. It asks one simple question – how will you die? Whether surviving in Knox County free-roam or controlling Indie Stone mascot Baldspot in his quest to save his injured wife Kate – death is always a certainty. Quite how long you manage to put it off is another matter…

Its not just Zombies that will kill but the environment. You can build and fortify to keep the horde at bay or always be on the move. Fight the cold during winter. Farm to spend less time making risky supply runs. Make to much noise with firearms and zombies will be attracted to your location, forming groups organically making it difficult to fight them off or pass by unnoticed. Over exert yourself and you might not be able to make a run for it when it counts. Depression, starvation, loneliness, illness, insanity, a lethal bite...

Q: What to expect from v1? Whats the ETA?

Project Zomboid the amazingly moddable, zombie infested creative sandbox has just released another standout feature for all you budding architects of the apocalypse.

The new creative mode in build 33 gives survivors the option to build their own houses, forts or even towns and cities with a innovative and simple to use editor, coupled with the ability to join forces and build with your online friends, you will never be alone in your creative endeavors again.

Here's what the devs have to say about build 33s release.

Creative Mode is something we first experimented with in the dim and distant past, but came back to mind when we were looking at the speed of our own map production and the tools that we use. The Louisville map we’re building is very ambitious so, alongside EasyPickins’ awesome existing mapping systems, we started to think about ways we could populate our world more quickly.

Furthermore, Creative Mode works completely in online multiplayer, so players can join forces to build an entire town on their server – before using it as a fun and engaging place to die from zombies. Split screen support isn’t currently coded, but will certainly be something we look into as we refine the system.

In terms of Build 33 – the first version of Creative Mode will cover only the essentials: containing basic house construction, furniture population, landscaping and so on. As we roll it out further, however, we’ll provide additional tools that will let you create neat road systems, sidewalks, gardens, fences, levels of erosion and all that fun stuff.

A stand out comment from the developers is the possibility in linking all user created maps so they are linked into one huge zombie infested world created by the players for the players.

Then if all servers have their own unique maps, who’s to say we couldn’t see about giving them an option to have their borders connected one day? With Build 33 the Zomboid infection will be easier to spread than ever before. Exciting times!

Don't forget you can also share your creations on modDB and indieDB to get even more exposure for your custom maps, mods and creations, so why not add yours today.

You know what the worst thing is?

When the update is actually released, none of these people saying "SCAM" are actually going to apologize. They're just going to say something like "Oh, well, about time!" or "Took you long enough!"

I swear, this fan base is almost as entitled as the one for Total War...

So complaining because we've been waiting a year and a half for an update to a game we've paid for is now us being 'entitled?'

That's rich. I'll just quote Forbes on the matter.

"The verdict is in, folks, and it’s the same as it was last year: calling upset gamers ‘entitled’ is still a lazy substitute for an argument."

It's said in a slightly different context, but it fits this context as well.

Yes. They are making a game. You expect them to do something when there's no reason at all for you to expect it.

You did not pay for a game. You paid for a demo, and the promise of a game later. They're making progress. Do you expect them to just magically have a game when they snap their fingers? They did not promise to release new updates constantly.

It's been a year since the update, and in that time, this TINY, INDEPENDENT, (And I cannot stress that enough) studio had a ridiculously bumpy development, and honestly, Im surprised they're still making such good progress!

A game this in-depth doesn't get made in a month. Especially not after having to start over completely half way through development.

Incorrect. We paid for access to the alpha builds during development.

Look at the purchase button above, where it states: "Project Zomboid Alpha"
Then beneath it where it states: "Expect frequent updates..."

Then please explain how we should come to the conclusion you have?

The developers have taken our money as alpha funding.
Mid-way decided to backtrack, and turn this into a kickstarter.

That was not what they sold me.
That is not what Desura is actually selling.

The fact they have not come on here, and changed that purchase button, clearly indicated, to me at least, who alpha funders are dealing with concerning Indie Stone.

Dishonest comes to mind.
All the fanbois, who it appears like to scream in caps will not change this. :)

Haha I will, Im very happy for them to prove me wrong but I just dont think they will is all and I am entitled, I paid for somehting that hasnt come after about 2 years so I can complain all I want.

Edit: infact m8 Id just be happy if they dropped a save into the Desura version because that would give me something I can play but both versions are broken the 2.5 more so but the desura version while older feels more polished.

It wouldnt be hard for them to drop a save function into it

It looks like they keep trying to add stuff to the same update, like trying to do one huge update that will take a while, instead of doing semi-small updates.....i mean, i like getting a lot of new stuff in one sitting, but if i have to wait like a year....i mean the last update on desura that the changelog says was in sept 2011....

For my understanding, they are going to release version RC3 to Desura, but the date is unknown (probably during Q1/Q2).

This is one of those examples of how great indie alpha funding can be... Project Zomboid is a real work of love fueled by a great community and great interaction between developers and fans. Even if it's just in the earliest stages the colossal potential it has for modding alone makes this a game full of potential. As for the game itself it has great music, and awesome atmosphere... It's a great ride for all the nostalgic gamers that fondly remember isometric games. And the structure of this game…

I enjoyed this game for a while, but due to the constant "patch coming soon" but never actually coming, im giving up on this game for now, maybe the game will finally be slightly updated within a year.
