Project Zomboid is an open-ended zombie-infested sandbox. It asks one simple question – how will you die? Whether surviving in Knox County free-roam or controlling Indie Stone mascot Baldspot in his quest to save his injured wife Kate – death is always a certainty. Quite how long you manage to put it off is another matter…

Hello all, so this week we have an announcement to make that we’re sure a few people suspected might happen one day or another. At the moment the PZ team is working with modder extrordinaire TurboTuTone to bring the incredible Erosion mod into the base game!

To those who are not aware of it, the mod is incredible, and simulates the wear and tear of the world over time, with cracks appearing in walls and floors. Grass, vines and trees growing over urban areas as nature reclaims the planet. It also will bring seasons into the game, with snow in the winter, brown trees and grass in autumn, and flowers blooming in summer.

In the process we will be expanding the system, and TurboTuTone has already been working on some awesome new stuff such as soil moisture maps, with Mash drawing new trees, bushes and grasses for the various seasons and map areas!

Here are a few screenshots, please note these are WIP:

The winter will also be getting some love, though we have no screenshots of those yet! Mash intends to do extra stuff such as leaves on the floor for autumn, and grass coming through cracks in concrete and all other good stuff!

So a big big thanks to TurboTuTone for allowing us and helping us bring a more evolving dynamic world to Project Zomboid, and we can’t wait to see what he does in future!

Build 28

As you may be aware, last week we released a test build of 28 onto the password protected Steam branch I Will Backup My Save, which can be found by following the instructions here.

Easy and Romain have been hammering away at a bunch of fixes to the most commonly encountered issues in the test build, and we’re planning on shipping it out to official soon. There may be another hotfix to the IWBUMS branch before that happened, but fingers crossed it won’t be long now!

Work on the map, vehicles and NPCs continues apace, nothing specific to report except as to say they are going very well!

Later folks! <3

A very handy editor made by randomer679. This is just a little program he made to edit sandbox options mid-game. He wanted to be able to turn off zombies...

A very early demo, so please be kind! Surviving isn’t just about blowing zombie’s heads off. Depression, starvation, trust issues, loneliness, illness...

Finally able to play unstable version. When i bought the game a was unhappy with the 1.5 version. I tried to update to an unstable version on the desura project zomboid page but it did not work .. dunno why. Anyway so i got on the Project Zomboid site (not desura) Clicked Download and downloaded the 0.2.0q. Everything went smooth but the game jammed all the time. I then made sure Jave was updated (witch was not) and amazingly for now no glitch. If you have been waiting for the 2.0 update dont, its night and day compared to 1.5. i just do not like how much variables there is (happiness, boredom) but thats just y opinion, have fun!!

Come on, kids. Be patient. I've seen what they're working on with the new updates. This game will take a while. Literally EVERYTHING is being improved, right down to animations and lighting. Relax, be happy with what you've got now, and know that there are great things to come.

Now... That being said, can somebody please tell me how to execute the unstable 2.0R update from the .zip file without the launcher? If you can, send me detailed instructions in a message. It would be much appreciated.

I can't be happy when npcs die and can't be replaced at some point with more npcs that happen to drive into town for supplies, or raiders looking for supplies. Or the army which i had yet to see at any point. Plus i can't climb my bedsheet rope back into my safe places. And how the hell does a zombie get into the building when it's blocked on all sides. I want a way to destroy wooden stairs ^.^ But doubtful that would stop them, it's not too much to want a way to climb up somewhere zombies can't reach and you can't kill them. Like in that one film where they were in the mall and they blocked off a wall to the hallway that went to the roof. They should have just smashed the stairs and kept using that ladder into the ducts. :)

It makes you think just what lengths you would go to, just to survive another day.

Sure it does, i would climb back up the rope if i could, and if any survivors tried to climb up i would hit them with a bat until the zombies below ate them.
I'm thinking of the realism here, a bedsheet out a window you can climb out of but not up, isn't fair. This whole game is built on the idea of realistic survival :) And i would think that a whole biker gang would be paranoid enough of outsiders to stick together and ride into towns for supplies, raid your area, and then see what lengths you would goto, to get them to go away.

This is one of those examples of how great indie alpha funding can be... Project Zomboid is a real work of love fueled by a great community and great interaction between developers and fans. Even if it's just in the earliest stages the colossal potential it has for modding alone makes this a game full of potential. As for the game itself it has great music, and awesome atmosphere... It's a great ride for all the nostalgic gamers that fondly remember isometric games. And the structure of this game…

I enjoyed this game for a while, but due to the constant "patch coming soon" but never actually coming, im giving up on this game for now, maybe the game will finally be slightly updated within a year.
