Project Zomboid is an open-ended zombie-infested sandbox. It asks one simple question – how will you die? Whether surviving in Knox County free-roam or controlling Indie Stone mascot Baldspot in his quest to save his injured wife Kate – death is always a certainty. Quite how long you manage to put it off is another matter…

So here are the beginnings of the character stats.

Please note all UI is placeholder.

So here are the beginnings of the character stats. Hunger and fatigue obviously rise while you’re milling about. Fatigue will rise faster as you exert yourself. If they get into the red then you’re going to start to suffer physically, but also mentally. So you need to keep up on your sleep and food to keep yourself in the right frame of mind necessary to survive.

You see above you have stress and morale. Stress is the short term stressed effect of seeing zombies close by, hearing banging at your door or other unsettling noises, and generally anything which stresses you out (which will likely include annoying companions in the future). If nothing is stressing you out your stress level begins to drop. However, while you are stressed it will start dragging your morale down, which is a more long term effect and harder to change.Stress can be lowered by killing zombies, drinking booze, taking some pills, or as the screenshot’s tooltip shows, a cigarette to calm the nerves.

Of course, all these things are addictive, so rely on them too much and you will suffer withdrawls if you go without them, which will only drag your emotional state further into the gutter.

There will be more stats than this, though. Coming next is sanity, which will result from high stress and low morale for long periods, and will be an even more long term effect that’s nigh on impossible to rectify if it drops.

Oh man, I can't wait to see which direction you guys are going to go with this. A survival RPG like this has been something I've always wanted, but few people have delivered on. I think the closest thing that I've played that was halfway fulfilling is Urban Dead.

I'm curious which direction you'll go with the addictions. Will you have them work similarly in Fallout 3 where there is a cure (doctor) if you manage to seek one out?

Also, in terms of inventory, will how much you carry have any affect on your endurance? Will players be able to find larger backpacks, etc. to increase their inventory size?

Looking forward to seeing more, keep it up guys!

and another items to raise the stress, asy items to find, like cards, videogames, cool clothes, etc ?

"Stress can be lowered by killing zombies, drinking booze, taking some pills...."

This is giving such a positive message lol. I can see the children now. "Hey mommy, I had a stressful spelling test today. Where are the pills?" or "Mommy, the kids at school are picking on me. Where is the booze?

I'm just messing with you. I just think it's funny that those were the stress relievers that you thought of.

The game looks great.

Hehe.

This ain't no spelling test, this is the end of the world :p

there will of course be other ways, personality dependent, but these ones are the most risky ways so of course to get across the gritty harsh realism of it hitting the bottle seems more apt than doing a suduko. :D

Looks awesome guys! i have always wanted a realistic sandbox zombie sruvival game :). Just wondering if you guys will make it so that when you have made some more progress with the game you will make it so that tho who have pre-order can test a early build of the game. (sorry for my bad English)

so more stress = lower morale
low morale does what? i presume things like messing with your aim or so :p

yeah going insane would be a pretty interesting. you could do it many different ways. hallucinations could start to get pretty great... maybe an NPC specific for losing your **** too hard.... its name could be randomized and it coul;d have some pretty strange ideas...

should take a while to realize its not a REAL npc haha.

i'm definitely excited for some NPC work.

cant wait to see this come along its way more.
