Terran is not another space life simulator – you will not spend hours flying in empty, silent space. Your ship’s event system ensures a multitude of activities are at your fingertips, warping you to your destination instantly. The events may be mission orders and opportunities, or from a host of civil, military and environmental pursuits that grant you the chance to shape the galaxy or be shaped by it. The rewards for success and the consequences for failure are determined by how you choose to engage with these unfolding events and have no predetermined end or climax.

Design your own ships
Build your ship from an expanding array of parts in any of the 13 capital class categories. Research, manufacture, buy, steal and discover new parts. Assemble killer ships and even share them with your friends.

Command & Control
Receive and issue tactical orders in real time combat. Relationships, culture and individual persona affects how your forces will respond to your orders; objectives can be issued but loyalty determines how or even if they will be followed.

Capital Ship Combat
Take direct real time control of a massive capital class warship and participate in single ship, wing, flotilla, division and full fleet actions. From the agile corvette well under a hundred meters long to the huge Gar which can exceed 2,000 meters what you fly has a major impact on how you fly.

Civilization Management
Become the leader of a world, system, sector, region or the whole galaxy. You can join and rise in the ranks or form your own faction, corporation, crime syndicate or bounty hunter team. Grow and expand through military power, business savvy or political tenacity.

Galactic Quests
The galaxy is always evolving, reacting to NPCs and you. Events are always right at your fingertips with zero flying aimlessly in empty space and how you choose to engage in them if at all will guide the continuous evolution of your story.

Like a true Thespian Terran is always in character and never admits it’s a game. You are a Terran pilot, a being merged with machine, feared and respected across the known galaxy. The game will present as if it’s your ship OS and the galaxy will respond to your skill and style presenting a constantly evolving and changing experience.

Native VR Support
Built in and ready to go support for popular VR headsets and of course for traditional screen play.

Heathen Engineering's Terran is still under development; features may be changed, added, removed during development and in later expansions. Check back frequently for news and updates.

Terran is the first full-featured title from Heathen Engineering. A sci-fi themed game, the player takes on the role of a Terran, a cyborg-like evolution of human. Sandbox by nature, the game includes action, RPG, population management and even real-time strategy elements.

Terran is being built for Windows, Mac and Linux and will support a variety of VR headsets right out of the digital box. Having been under development for the past few years, the game is now looking for community support to find its way on Steam.

Demo Battle

Capital-class Ship Combat is one of the game's key features. As a Terran pilot you are literally part of your ship. You can view your ship from one of its orbital cameras, or manage events and factions from your OS, a desktop-like screen. The OS concept replaces the traditional start/main menu with various ‘programs’ or ‘apps’ that you can use to learn about the galaxy and embark on adventures.

The demo gives a trimmed-down set of apps, but includes a test function to let you try out your newly crafted ship in simulated combat. Ships can also be saved as templates and exported to share with friends, although this feature isn’t yet available in the demo.

Demo Ship Editor

A more advanced form of modding will be supported with a planned ‘SDK’ to let modders make custom ships, parts, factions, new regions in space, races and even events for other players. Time will tell if this gets hooked up to communities like Nexus and Steam Workshop, but expect Heathen Engineering to focus on this area as the game approaches completion.

If building, fighting and modding with massive warships wasn’t already enough for you, you’ll be happy to know that Terran has more in development that is slated to be ready for release:

Another dynamic game feature is Population Management. You can choose to join or form your own faction, crime syndicate, corporation or even a bounty hunter gang. Bounty hunters don’t include civilians, but your team comprises NPCs with a culture, persona and their own ever-evolving goals.

Developing and maintaining these relationships is especially important since the game's command system is based on military structure. Orders or objectives are handed to a person or group and that entity then determines how to execute them.

The relationship with the commander naturally impacts on how orders are followed, but the individual persona and cultural factors of the NPC also play a part. For example, you may find it hard to get subordinates to fly a suicide mission, or they may refuse if it conflicts with their morals.

The loyalty system can also work for you – if you are in command of a flotilla or some other small group within a fleet, you may choose to switch sides; if your subordinates are more loyal to you than to the faction then they may cross over with you.

Promo Face 1

Population management doesn’t have to always involve conquest by military force. Terran also has many non-combat modes of play. Political, economic and even cultural domination is possible.

Populations are divided into ‘stellar assets’ like planets, stations and even asteroid fields. All the assets within a system fall under a leadership group. Systems in turn fall under sectors, sectors under regions, and if you’re really ambitious you can achieve galactic control.

Managing so many layers can be challenging; the leadership system allows you to personally manage any or all of the groupings. You can also assign NPC leaders or allow the populations to choose their own leaders. Leaders don’t have to be a single person; you can assign a structure such as a monarchy or counsel and then assign positons within that structure or fill them yourself.

Populations also require commodities and infrastructure to survive and prosper. Managing this aspect of the game can be left to your leadership groups, or managed directly at different levels.

Terran crucially plays how you want it to play. You have the ability to change your mind and try different things. The game keeps track of what you do and reacts to how your behaviour changes.

There are many other features not shown in the initial demo release, but the demo will be updated throughout the final stages of development to give players a feel for each evolving area of the game.

Heathen aims for a late Q1 2016 release, assuming the Steam Greenlight campaign goes well. At launch it will support Windows and VR platforms, with Mac and Linux available shortly thereafter.

Heathen's Terran is am ambitious game featuring capital spaceship combat, ship building, faction, corporation, bounty hunter gangs and crime syndicates that can be formed, taken over or joined and served. Manufacturing, politics, trade, black markets and a rich persona system for the NPCs.

The game features can be staggering; so is it all to much, not enough or is goldilocks and just right?

Which feature/s sound most interesting to you or have we just missed your favourite of SciFi gaming all together. Let us know on the Steam Greenlight Concept page where we have set up discussion forums for this and more.

While planet side gameplay is something we have thought about a lot its below some of the other wishes on the list :)

Territory Assets
Take ownership of planets, stations, fields, etc. and build/expand on them increasing population, resource gain and output of various products such as ship components, commodities and technologies. Become your own faction and enter the political/conquest side of life.

Create or otherwise 'acquire' business, establish trade and manufacturing, employ or be employed to climb the corporate steps. A powerful corporation can even rival the authority and power of the factions.

Establish or join criminal organizations, weave a network of smugglers, contraband manufactures, spies and other shady operations for profit or just to mix it up ;)

Become a bounty hunter, vie for position on the hunters leader board and earn more profitable contracts with none of the baggage associated with military service or faction rule... not every one likes politics, sometimes you just want to blow things up :)
