Dinosaurs have been unleashed on an old military controlled island due to an experiment gone awry. A team of mercenaries have been dispatched to contain the threat.
Primal Carnage is a multiplayer first person shooter where players must work as a team to complete game mode dependent objectives. In Primal Carnage, you can play as one of two factions: dinosaurs or humans. Both are filled with special unique classes and abilities that complement and contrast each other.

Lukewarm Media is happy to announce that Primal Carnage will now being using the industry standard for lush forests, rich jungles and wind blown plains. Speedtree is being fully integrated into the Unigine engine used by Lukewarm Media for Primal Carnage. If you have not heard of Speedtree, it has been used in recent games such as Batman: Arkham Asylum, World in Conflict, Oblivion, just to name a few of the many. With the addition of Speedtree to the Lukewarm Media family, it will allow a more rapid placement of both Speedtree foliage and our own custom trees, shrubs and grass, improving the productivity of our level artists 5 fold.

We will be releasing a number of videos, ingame screenshots showing our progress on the game and insider info on the day to day grind of producing a game using a diverse, world wide based team of very talented artists.

Now, some info on Speedtree: Speedtree comes with a suit of tools and programs to help us develop the game we all want to see. Here is brief outline of a few of them -

SpeedTree Modeler

This is where it all starts. The Modeler covers all aspects of modeling including procedural and hand-tuned geometry creation, LOD, lighting, physics, and more. Loads any tree from their Tree model library.

SpeedTree Compiler

This light-weight application gets trees primed for real-time rendering. Use the Compiler to combine efficient real-time tree models, texture atlases, and 360° normal-mapped billboards in no time.

SpeedTree SDK

This set of C++ classes conquers all of the tasks associated with high performance tree rendering, all in a way that is easy to integrate.

Also, we are working hard on a parallel project that incorporates all of the features that will be in Primal Carnage using the amazing Unigine engine. Lets just say it is with one of the largest hardware companies in the world who are willing to support indie game developers and it is a partnership made in gaming nirvana. So stay tuned for an update that will blow you away in the near future.

We will continue to fervently develop both Primal Carnage and build relationships with like minded companies to benefit both Lukewarm Media, Primal Carnage and our loyal and rapidly growing number of supporters. Thank you.

I love using speed tree! I have some problems though at times within the UDK such as leaves not showing up at angles. Probably something I did.

Speedtree is not free and we did not state we got it for free. We did however through partners and negotiations by Ashton Andersen secure Speedtree through several means. We would also like to thank our supporters for all of their generous donations.

Does Speedtree support Linux? I don't see anything on their site about it.

Unigine does, and once integrated, the Linux version of Primal Carnage will be no different to the PC version.

So this will be the first Linux game to use Speedtree. Nice.

This is definitely a huge deal for us. Not many Indie game developers get the chance to use Speedtree! Obviously, our environments are a huge part of our game and integrating Speedtree assets (and our own) with this tool is going to make Primal Carnage a top quality game.

When we can show you guys some shots of Speedtree in-game, rest assured you will be the first to see it. Actually, donators will - but hopefully that provides you with some incentive, right?! ;)

" Not many Indie game developers get the chance to use Speedtree! "

It's rolled into UDK.

Sure, but it's not the full software. UDK version of speed tree is a much lighter version. Unigine does not come with speed tree, so we are lucky to have access to it without having to use UDK.

I should have said "commercial license in Unigine" :)

Hi there, now I am not here to troll or be disruptive, but as far as I am aware the speedtree that is bundled with the UDK is complete at least this is what it states on the speedtree homepage and within the press release concerning this. The difference between the version you are currently using and the version used in UDK is basically .1 , yours being 5.1 and UDK's being 5.0. Anyway I can understand the excitement you guys must feel at having this tool to work with as I was just as excited when the UDK along with v5 of Speedtree was released and made public for hobbyist and professionals alike. If i am wrong over this I put my hand up fully, I just thought there a was some sight misinformation with your reply. Cheers and all the best filthy.

It may come with UDK, but a lot of indie developers are developing with other middleware engines. It would cost us $1495 to purchase speedtree for NA :)

Hi LOK, I understand fully what you are saying and anything we can get for free is nice and well received. The point i was trying to clarify was the statement about the speedtree included with UDK not being a complete version unless Ashton is stating that they are using a newer version in a round about way. When you call something a lighter version this implies along the lines of either a demo or reduced function toolset which v5 is not albeit not the most recent version. My comment was not a slate against, Ashton, his team members or his game concept but rather aimed to inform people that they have this power at there finger tips too. Anyhow I do not want to be seen as spamming this thread as I was just trying to help in my own round about way . once again good luck and Cheers filthy.

No harm no foul, I understand what you were saying but my response was more to AJ_Quick. Since this is not a UDK engine, it's a pretty big investment for the team. Speedtree is pretty awesome, glad you guys could acquire it!

Hmmm, and for performance ? Speedtree is more heavier than a static mesh, so, for a forest do not you think that this might be a bit boring? I know the comparison is not great, but now under the UDK, we can see that SpeedTree in large numbers, is quite consumer.

The last news post was 29th of MAY, this one was 4th of JULY, if you count the names of the months you get 3 months, but if you actually count the days, which I am assuming is the correct way of calculating time, it is around 37 days, which makes it just over a month. But hey, 3 months sounds worse does it not?
