Welcome to Prehysteria: The open-world, survival horror game set on a jungle infested with dinosaurs.

It's been a real interesting couple of months. I got a full-time job in a warehouse (completely despise it) and was working on an indie horror title called Alas Mortis, but for some reason there was something about the game that just wasn't meshing with me in terms of design and I scrapped it for something I could remain a little more passionate about. Something I could sit down with and develop with my heart put into it. Something with dinosaurs.

I've tried my hand at developing dinosaur based video-games before, and that ultimately failed as I was inexperienced, and didn't exactly have any development experience under my belt. I was the 'Ideas Guy' and ultimately that isn't the only role you should have in development for a project. You should have some sort of design skills before setting out to create something. That's why Lost World: Source failed.

It was ultimately me getting too over my head, and also working with something I couldn't exactly be creative with in the end. It was a horde-based Jurassic Park themed game where players would defend against various waves of dinosaurs in a variety of environments. While part of me wishes that game would of been completed I'm also sort of glad it never came to fruition. It's allowed me to reflect on those failures, and improve myself as not only a person but as a developer as well and actually learn some skillsets to bring to the table.

So, back in July of 2013 I was discussing making a game with Matt Cohen, whom is the developer of Paranormal and it's expansion, Paranormal: The Town. We got to talking about making a survival-horror game with dinosaur elements. Dinosaurs were something I've always been passionate about, so it didn't make in terms of convincing me to actually get this thing off the ground when both of us had some free time to dedicate to it.

Around this time I had begun pre-production on my team-based competitive/horror game 'Alas Mortis' in the Unreal Engine. Things were looking up for the title, and it seemed like I could of launched the game within the next couple of months as an early-access/beta. The issue was, I just didn't enjoy developing the game and it was starting to show in the assets, and entire project as a whole. The concept just didn't seem fun, and being someone who wants to do this as a career I couldn't justify dropping it to the public for a price, so I ultimately scrapped the idea about a month ago and set my sights with getting started on Prehysteria, the project I'm working on with Matt Cohen and a handful of other talented people in the industry.

Together, we have some pretty awesome accomplishments and past-work being completed from various team members.

We have people on the team who have worked on games such as League Of Legends, Paranormal (obviously), Need For Speed Pro Street, Shoot Many Robots, and more. We are taking the best of the best in terms of game development and throwing them into our project to bring our dinosaurs to life and make Prehysteria the scariest game imaginable, and most importantly the scariest dinosaur game ever made. It'll be an adventure for sure, and we're hoping you'll come with us on this endeavor.

The most exciting part about our line-up, and what you can expect from Prehysteria is our sound design. We have two excellent guys working for us in terms of sound, and they have some great experience behind their belts. As of this moment one of these wonderful lads, named Frankie is traveling to zoos from his hometown in Montreal to record and document animal sounds for the project. This means, we're taking a similar approach to how the Jurassic Park films captured the sounds of their dinosaurs. We're excited to reveal some of those sounds in the coming months.
The other juicy tid-bit of news is regarding our other sound designer named Keith. Not only has he been nominated twice for a Primetime Emmy but some of his sound work has been on films such as Kick-Ass, Les Miserables, Paul, Attack The Block, and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Like I said, we've got the best of the best to bring you most excellent, and terrifying dinosaur themed experience this side of the Cretaceous.
---
We also have a very talened concept artist helping us out in terms of design by providing us with some excellent art for our dinosaurs, and island. Jurassic Park may have the T-Rex as their posterchild but we're being a little diffirent. We're taking a more obscure dinosaur and giving him some love. The Baryonyx will be the posterchild for Prehysteria, but that doesn't mean you won't see some other loveable giants in the end product as well. You'll see Rexes, you'll see Raptors, you'll see dinosaurs in general.

Life, will find a way.

Great name! What games are you using as inspiration for Prehysteria? Any particular survival horror and/or dinosaur games you're a fan of?

Nothing really inspirational aside from the original Dino Crisis series. We just want to make a truly, terrifying horror experience with dinosaurs.

I loved Dino Crisis I'm surprised people don't talk about it more.
