Fact: Pokémon: Survival Island will change how you play Pokémon.

Gone are the Pokémon Centers, Shops and Gyms. Gone are the houses, villagers and friendly Professors. It's just you and 386 wild Pokémon. And you're pretty sure someone out there wants you very, very dead.

This Pokémon fan game was originally intended to bridge Pokémon and Minecraft gameplay, but quickly became an experiment in game creation.


The Player, an intern working for Silph Co., is the only survivor of a deadly boat crash, and is now stranded on a deserted island. Using only the most basic of supplies, the Player and their only remaining Pokémon struggle to survive in a hostile environment. As they explore deeper and deeper into the wilderness, they begin to uncover the secrets of an ancient civilization, and come to the eerie realisation that the boat crash may not have been an accident...

New Features:

- Camping -
Since the Player is all on their own on a deserted island, they must make do with the environment surrounding them. Camps are small areas set up in caves and other shelters and contain workbenches, brewing pots and mortars for item creation, as well as a bed and chests for resting and item/Pokémon storage. The Player starts with one Base Camp, but as they progress, they acquire more supplies to equip additional camps.

- Crafting -
Inspired by Minecraft, crafting is a way for players to obtain items in Survival Mode, as shops do not exist on the island. Along their journey, players will encounter several types of plants similar to and including berries. Harvesting and re-planting them is crucial to creating all types of items, from Balls to Vitamins. Items can be crafted at Workbenches, Brewing Pots and Mortars, all of which are located in a Camp.

- Chest System -
As there are no PCs in Survival Mode, the Player must store their Pokémon in chests. The catch is that each box is independent from another, so if you store a Pokémon in one camp, you can only withdraw it from that location.

- Encounter Leveling -
Wild Pokémon encounters have been adjusted to the weighted average level of the Player's party. You will still encounter weak and strong Pokémon, but they will always be proportional. This also has the side-effect of sometimes encountering a wild Pokémon that will always be stronger than the Player's party, and therefore be both harder to catch and harder to escape from.

- Hidden Encounter Levels -
This sounds a lot more awesome than the feature suggests... In short, wild Pokémon will not display their levels during an encounter, and are replaced by a question mark. This makes it very difficult to judge how strong a random encounter will be, and riskier to chance the "Run" button.

- Temples -
Taking a nod from The Legend of Zelda and many other fantasy games, the island is home to eight temples built by an ancient civilization. Home to traps and varieties of strong exotic Pokémon, they also contain ancient relics that are crucial to unlocking the mystery of the island. Only the first temple is available to the Player in the current Demo mode.

- Music -
Survival Island contains a mixed soundtrack that takes inspiration from many different Pokémon games, as well as several original tracks by ferriswheel42.

Hey everyone!

It's been a loooong time since I last updated Pokémon: Survival Island... But a new one is just around the corner! Here's a summary of the changes.

Gen IV and V are here! (Sort of)

The first and biggest change, which has been asked for since before the first release, is Pokémon from Gens IV and V. You can now select them as starter Pokémon, although you're still limited to non-legendary base forms. They won't show up in the wild yet, but I do have plans on getting them in there eventually.

Crafting has a new look!

If there is one thing that has ever needed improvement in Pokémon: Survival Island, it's the crafting mechanics. I mean, they're pretty much the mechanic that the rest of the game grows from, so it's deserving of some attention. Instead of crafting from several different tables, now you open up the crafting interface from the workbench to create all the items you need. The recipes are still the same, so if you're stumped, you can refer to these pages here. The image guides are also included in the download for handy reference.

Debug Mode

Did you get stuck inside a wall due to a silly bug? Well, you can now enable Debug Mode from the Options menu. With Debug Mode on, you can hold CTRL to walk through walls, avoid wild Pokémon encounters in grass, use HMs without needing a Pokémon that knows it, add Pokémon to your party, edit the stats of existing Pokémon... The possibilities are endless! WARNING: Some Debug Mode options can seriously mess your game up, so if you're not sure about what something does, save first, then consult the Pokémon Essentials documentation: Pokemonessentials.wikia.com

Screen Resolution

There's now an option to set the screen size to 1024x768 - twice the size of the original! There are still a few bugs with it, but it should make a big difference for those looking for a full-screen option.

Bug Squashing

I've fixed a bunch of bugs in the game, ranging from getting stuck in walls (sorry!) to Pokémon starting without any practical moves (Magikarp and Ralts, I'm looking at you). Hopefully, it'll make for a much smoother gameplay experience.

The Future

While time travel may indeed be an upcoming feature, there are still some things to wait on.First, is a bigger world map. It takes a lot of effort to design the tilesets, backgrounds, and maps that expand the game. Right now, there's the Temperate and Mountain regions, which will be followed by the Swamp, Badlands, Glacier, Ocean and Rainforest regions and their respective Temples. The idea is that once the overworld map is complete, then I'll add more and more "rabbit-hole" locations for players to explore. These will contain useful items, breeding grounds, additional base camps and Legendary Pokémon.
After that, I'll add areas to encounter Gen IV and V Pokémon, likely as islands separate from the main one.
As for Features, I don't plan on adding anything new - just tweaking what already exists, or adding additional customization options. So no multiplayer, sorry.

I've been testing and checking the PBE text files and noticed that some pokemon just aren't viable as a starters, an example of which would be Ralts, as I've always wanted a Gardevoir, only has Growl to start with.

I've also found a small amount of bugs such as how typing Roselia as a starter gives Roselia instead of Budew when it only chooses de-evolutions of evolved pokemon.

Is it possible if you could make a bugs report section on the website

ive actually started out with a ralts and am doing fine and as for budew this game only goes up to the third generation dude so budew hasnt been made yet

Wow, me and my sister are SO interested in this !! I'm not going to be one of those people that flail around and DEMAND multiplayer capabilities because I understand that developing the game even as it is will take a lot of time (and blood and sweat and tears :P we are grateful), but I'm interested if you feel that multiplayer a step you might take in the future?

Even just between a couple of players? Do you think there is any chance of you pursuing it? Just wanting to get a general feel for the situation :)
