Gone are the Pokémon Centers, Shops and Gyms. Gone are the houses, villagers and friendly Professors with angry nephews. It's just you and 386 wild Pokémon. And you're pretty sure someone out there wants you very, very dead.

In this video, I'll show you the different ways you can select a starter Pokémon.

To summarize:

  • Typing in the name of a Pokémon will give you that Pokémon.
  • Typing in the name of a type, like "fire" or "bug", will give you a Pokémon of that type.
  • Typing in "random" will give you a completely random Pokémon.

Notes:

  • You can't select evolved Pokémon, but the game will automatically suggest its base form if you try and select one.
  • Most common misspellings of Pokémon names are taken into account.
  • You don't need to type in the gender symbols for Nidoran, it will ask you which gender you want to choose.
  • All Pokémon will be given to you at level 5, with 150 happiness points so it will obey you from the get-go.

You should be able to pick gender for all of them, but if that's too hard at least go through the entire list of pokémon that evolves differently depending on gender such as Snorunt, Kirlia/Ralts or... What that it? Oh well.

The feature exists to support the gender symbols. Nidoran is the only species that has its gender integrated in its name, and as far as the game knows, they're two separate species. Since this feature only deals with names and how they're interpreted, it can't really do anything to change anything but the species.

I'll see what I can do outside of this, though.
