They usually hang out on the trees :)
You still didn't answer how would you battle with them.
You can punch them in the face and they wont attack back.

Or they fall down if you walk under them.

Well, those pincer-esque appendages that you see in the english gen 1 games, and some artwork, yes. We chose to represent Kakuna that way, and if we decide not to utilize it or take advantage of it, they'll remain closed so no one will be any wiser about it anyway-unless the read this. Doh!
