well,todays pc can handle something like gta4 or even previous versions which have probably very lot of polygons,soo adding some extra edge for smothness doesnt bother :)
It's about making it play well on EVERY machine, not just today's computers. Some people (myself included) are using PCs that are something like 6 years old.
We just want an equally enjoyable experience for everyone.
