Ditto image - Pokémon: Generations

One of our main goals is to make sure none of the pokemon feel worthless. This may have to be pretty flexible, since there are exceptions like magikarp(whose sole existence is to show how inept it is until it becomes a Gyarados), but I would say Ditto has pretty nice potential, as far as PokéGen is concerned. The fact that combat isn't turn-based, as well as that moves will vary from pokemon to pokemon(for instance, Smokescreen for Koffing will behave differently than for Charmander) could make someone who knows all the attacks and variations pretty good with a Ditto.

Conversely, having a Ditto and not knowing how to use the pokemon you had it transform into could make you an easy win for the other trainer.

I'd say the trainer that's good with Ditto(in PG) is one to watch out for :P

Now to answer your question more directly, my brother used Ditto for quite some time in gen 1 when the games first came out, and kept him until he got Silver version :P But he's the only person I know that did that.
