It is the year 2287, one of the first colony ships sent out by Earth arrives at the planet Maria, in the Epsilon Indi Star System. During its landing sequence, something appears in front of the massive ship that causes it to lose control and crash into the planet. Some of the colonists survive in lifeboats, but what they find is an unforgiving land filled with creatures ready to outlast the visitors from Earth. Now the survivors must explore, gather, build, create, fight, and ultimately, conquer the land.

Hey everyone, it's been a while since we've updated here. We've just been way too busy getting to the current build, which is now at a0.72. A lot of new features have been added since the last update, you can read up on them here: Planetexplorers.pathea.net The game development is going pretty well, we've had some technical hurdles, but so far, we've been able to overcome them.

Demo links:

PC: Indiedb.com
Mac: Indiedb.com
Linux: Indiedb.com

The demo features the grassland area in the story mode and the entire build mode. For people that has trouble running the game, make sure that your graphics drivers are up to date. If that doesn't help, change the opencl calculation option from the gpu to cpu.

If you like the demo, you can get the full alpha version of the game by preordering on our website: Planetexplorers.pathea.net We plan to release on Steam Early Access probably late next month, I'll have more on that next week.

Also, check out some of the cool new creations made by other Planet Explorers players here: Isoplanetexplorer.com

Hey Pathea,
I just DLed the .51 alpha a few days ago and have to say that I'm excited. Voted on Steam and have been telling my friends about it.

However, I have one complaint and one bug. My complaint is about combat and movement: It is hard to attack something you are chasing because you have to use the mouse to turn your camera view but also have to keep it hovering over your target. If I could keyboard turn in situatoins like that it would be wonderful and if that is already possible just let me know please.

The bug is worse. I played for about an hour just fine and then quit. I got back into the game later but after that I can only play about 5 minutes before the game freezes completely. Has done this about 5 or so times now and with no common actions occurring when it did happen.

I am getting .52a now in hopes this is already fixed and if so I will edit this to reflect that.

Either way, thanks for the hard work and I can't wait for the finished game!

That's a good point, I'll think about it. The one problem with our control system is that we're trying to incorporate a lot of different system into one (mine, shoot, ingame ui, npc, selecting objects inscene, etc.), and it's hard to come up with a scheme that fits all more than our current one.

I was just thinking that in most games "A" and "D" let you turn left and right while "Q" and "E" let you strafe. This way you can keep your mouse hovered over your target while still maneuvering your character. This isn't a deal breaker for me personally but would make combat more fun and fluid.

That or hit box detection where if your weapon swing should hit your target it will regardless of if your cursor is hovering over the target or not.

We are actually experimenting with this scheme as well. And we might actually go in this direction. :)

I think your current movement system is ok, but consider making it more context based. Similar to a third-person shooter, targeting would be directed via the crosshair and the action performed would be based on the item currently selected and the type of target under the crosshair. Then you could just have a seperate UI toggle button for all other functionality, which would have a similar context based system but directed via the mouse cursor. Maybe even have right-click dropdowns while in UI mode to allow the player to access more functions.

I am so impressed. I was yelling to my wife while trying out the beta that this is going to be better than bloody Elder Scrolls when it's done, for God's sake. :D

Thanks! But the ES games are really really good in all aspects, we still have a long long long ways to go to get to that level.

It's a little odd how version .51 is supper laggy even when I put graphics level to the lowest with a good computer. But so far the game looks good.
