Pitman On Linux

The desktop version of Pitman, the 3D Rogue-like with board-game style, got an update! Especially those who didn't like the fact that you couldn't configure the screen size in Linux (because the game engine we use, Unity, just doesn't offer its infamous configuration screen on all platforms) might now be delighted to hear about the added features of version 1.5d - but also Windows and Mac users have more options than before:

  • new option: camera control sensitivity
  • new options: resolution and quality
  • new options: sound and music volume
  • full screen antialiasing

It might be that you didn't even know that Pitman is out for Linux! The reason is that we didn't make a big announcement about that - so now you're informed. ;-) The official support according to Unity Technologies is "for Ubuntu 10.04 or later, with a graphics card that has vendor-made drivers installed", but we get reports that Pitman is very well working on other distros.

Really nice debut from Rat King. Rogue-likes are in abundance but this one stands out having used the Unity engine. Addicting dungeon gameplay, simple interface and very nice lighting. I like the card ability interface as it lates you choose how to play while making inventory management decisions.

I just played it for a brief bit, and have absolutely no complaints. Folks who do not play, should not be posting reviews. It just doesn't make sense.

Rating is low, because someone who didn't bother to leave a review rated it 1. Other scores seem to be OK.

Bought it now, will comment after having played it. Looks nice.

This review (for iOS version) sold it to me:

Nice little game, and there's more to it than you might have expected from the screens or the demo. Tilesets, enemies, items and spells vary quite a lot and the trickier later levels and more advanced spells (no spoilers) allow some interesting tactical twists. A little more polish wouldn't hurt, however. While the tiles, lighting, most sounds and especially the music are all fine, the characters and mobs could do with a little more detail. The lack of any character animation and the minimalistic…
