Exiled. Abandoned to fate in some God-forsaken land. The path you walk is a razors edge, where death awaits your first misstep. Enemies claw at you, gnashing their teeth or calling forth dark, demonic magics; at least one thing is certain: you will not go quietly, you will not die alone. Path of Exile is a gritty, new Action Role Playing Game from New Zealand based studio, Grinding Gear Games. Path of Exile combines bone-shattering, monster-slaying action with in-depth character customization.

Players can pick from six playable character classes, which each focus on either one or two core attributes: Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence.
Active skills are gained in the form of levelable gems and passive skills are chosen from a huge, shared skill tree with over 1300 nodes.
Randomly generated items and world areas guarantee that no journey is the same; and fast-paced PvP action lets you cooperate with, or conquer, players from all over the world. Path of Exile is completely free and never "Pay-to-Win".

Grinding Gear Games announced today that the Open Beta for the free action role-playing game (RPG) Path of Exile is now live. Players may now experience Act 3 of the Path of Exile story, where they can explore abandoned docks, markets, temples and sewers in the ruined city of Sarn to uncover the dark truth of their exile. The company also stressed there will be no further character wipes after the Open Beta launch.

The highly anticipated game has already raised over USD$2.36 million in crowd-funded support, with those supporters gaining early access in the earlier closed beta, as well as some exclusive items.

"We've had amazing support from our community throughout development," said Chris Wilson, producer for Grinding Gear Games. "Their belief in our vision is making is possible to deliver a great game."

Path of Exile was recently named "Players' Choice Best Upcoming Game" by IndieDB. Over 78,000 readers voted in the awards. Massively says of the game, "[Path of Exile] is a great package. It's a F2P action RPG that holds up well to its competitors, and in many cases, pushes beyond my expectations."

I'm an old school gamer and this is the only game I play now. There is no gold but currency orbs, which allow you to craft your own gear. The reason D3 didn't work for me was because of the AH. When you have ALL the items available, there is no sense of connection/growth to your character. This isn't a simple game. The mechanics are so very complex. The skill tree is absolutely mind blowing. Millions of build variety. When you find/craft your own gear by yourself (along with 50+skills that can work for any class and numerous legendary loot drops), you feel MORE attached to your character and you want to progress more and dive more deeply into the mechanics. This game will be free to play when they go Open beta, I don't even understand how a game at this caliber could be free. That's why I'm supporting this game through closed beta, already got Kiwi pack! This is the best ARPG period.

Yes the game has a story. Not to mention a lot of actually well written backstory on a lot of the bosses. Feel free to check them up on the wiki, fun reads.

There is little story right now, but enough for a title in this genre (ARPG). Game progresses ridiculously fast these days (patches, custom events, announcements). The devs seem to be under the effect of Unwavering stance :F and everyone is hyped about the upcoming act 3.

This game is great. They may say it's only for the hardcore gamers, but play it and you'll want to be one.

I don't see how anyone would actually not like this game. The developers listen to their fans, the game has unique mechanics and enough things to do, which can last you for at least a year. A long time ago Act 3 was only a myth but now it's a fact, so there will definitely be more content for years to come. Another important factor is that the game is NOT pay-to-win. Heck, they deserve donations only because the game is so friggin` awesome!
