Overgrowth takes place in the savage world of Lugaru where rabbits, wolves and other animals are forced to use paws, claws and medieval weaponry to engage each other in battle. Combining 3rd person adventure platforming with intricate melee combat, Overgrowth achieves a unique feel. Overgrowth also benefits from Wolfire's brand new Phoenix Engine which has been built from the ground up to allow the use of cutting edge graphics, animation, and physics. Add to these exciting features Overgrowth’s realistic artificial intelligence and streamlined control system and the result is an astoundingly immersive experience.

There has been a flurry of new movement features added to the Overgrowth alphas recently so I decided it was time to make another video to show them in action. Many were mentioned in the alpha blog posts but in case you forgot, we've added: surface-based footstep noises, inverse kinematics to make sure Robbert's feet are actually placed on the ground, crouching, running (slow uphill, fast downhill), an improved jumping and falling animation system and just today David added the ability to do flips. I hope you enjoy the video below. Remember to watch it in HD.

Check out the upgraded movement system!

A hilarious compliment to all the new moves is the spontaneous ragdoll button which I used very liberally in this video. Thanks to David's careful coding and Bullet's fast physics calculations, no matter what animation or blend of animations Robbert is in the middle of, he can seamlessly transition to a ragdoll state and correctly collide with environment objects.

Your ragdolls look incredibly good, and they seem to have a really realistic weight to them. Well done.

Absolutely brilliant guys!
Keep up the good work!
I know the animations aren't finished yet, but perhaps animate him to pick himself back up instead of the character jumping to position? And AI on the character trying to avoid/grab objects during mid-air collision?
Fantastic piece of work so far though :)

Agree'd, i know its not done yet and you are probably going to do this anyway, but make an awesome 'pick yourself up' animation.
Amazing stuff though :)
Can't wait for it :D

Add friction use when landing on a slope, so if you are jumping too fast down a side of a hill, depending on how the terrain is, and the angle of the slope, the character can "slip and fall" if they aren't adapted to it.

Because you can't jump down a steep slope, hit the slope with your feet and NOT fall over (you'll basically try to break your fall using your heels, but if your falling faster, it'll be imminent).

This is also so in the future, when the game is released, you don't have ninjas that can jump off of steep slopes and near impossible terrains, and making it impossible to get a hit on those jumping ninjas.

Plus this makes jumps more tactical, meaning for multiplayer purposes, you can't jump all over the place just to **** off your opponent.

I have a question!
Do you guys plan on making some particles for when he jumps and lands he kinda kicks some dirt/dirt cloud appears?
Like if you kick the dirt or slide in it....it makes a dust cloud?
Would be cool! :)

Wow its amazing seeing this really come together and it seems like you guys are making big strides lately or at least more obvious stuff and not the behind the scenes engine work. I'm hoping the pre orders will start to pick up now that things are really starting to get moving :)

Would also like to see the small dust clouds etc as long as they aren't over done and a getting up animation would be sweet. Can't wait for the next update and am drooling over this game and the mods that are gonna follow!

A good unarmed attack, for especially Rabbits, Cats, and Dogs, is to get the jump on a target, thus stomping on them (in a grab kind of fashion) and doing crushing damage and turning the target into a rag doll. Especially if the character is falling from a really high height where fall = death, and breaking their fall on another character.

This game looks absolutely amazing! I've been following this for a long time now (since it was still called Lugaru 2) and I'm so stoked that development has come so far.

The running animation looks kind of odd, though. Not quite lifelike, a bit robotic.

This is some incredible work so far. Just keeps getting more and more impressive with each new feature :). Very enjoyable video. Supplementing what KingJones said, would it be too much to have sand particles appear when running on such surfaces? Not that I mind either way, just curious as to how far you wanna go with details.
