Mar 11, 2013 Multiplayer Map 0 commentsThis is a copy of sRGB map but under CC BY SA license.
It is an open source multiplayer first-person shooter. It uses the id Tech 3 engine source code (which is released under the GNU General Public License v2), and fills in the blank with all new media to make a playable game.
OpenArena is licensed under the GNU GPL version 2 - data and engine. Anyone can contribute to it, if it complies with the GNU GPL.
WARNING: OpenArena contains Mature Content. I'm serious. If you don't like shooting the bloody guts and beating hearts out of voluptuous barely modest combatants then don't play it, or play without the mature pk3 file and use com_blood 0/cg_showGibs 0 (but be aware that pure servers may not agree with this).

After a short delay of only several month finally the 0.8.8 release of OpenArena arrived at Desura.
Go give it a glance and maybe set up a dedicated server to celebrate this memorable event ;-)
The 0.8.8 release features a new character model called Neko and a bunch of either reworked or completely new maps for offline single player or online multiplayer games.
Next time a new version is released, it will doubtlessly arrive a little earlier over here.

This map is a copy of legodeck but under CC BY SA license.
This map is based on dm-curse for UT. I made this years ago and now I'm releasing an updated version under GPLv2.
This is the deck16 map from UT1, lego texture style. It has a different layout, with many changes to the original map. This map is an update to the original...
This map is the RGB color wheel, literally. 3 weapons and 3 levels.
Highest Rated (3 agree) 10/10
I love finally see OpenArena on Desura!
It's a great game, maybe the best shooter Q3 based.
Great job devs :)

Oups, sorry for the double post, Desura seemed to be stuck.
Does what it's meant to do more or less. Really, you can't complain, I've never played Quake 3 except for on the Dreamcast back in the day, but compared to Quake Live and other current arena shooters this one is severely offensively biased. It gives it a unique feel. Yeah the graphics are some of the worst we've ever seen and there are a lot of things that feel unfinished, but this charming little frag extravaganza will appeal to fans of hardcore arena shooters just fine, and it'll run on nearly any computer you have lying around in the darkest corners of your attic that nobody's been to since you upgraded your computer in 2001.
Bottom line, not for everybody, but if you're a hardcore FPS fan the learning curve isn't very steep and you can have many thrilling moments playing a great shooter. I've wasted hours in front of the screen playing Open Arena, it isn't Quake Live, but it's fun, and, like I said earlier, charming.
I think the graphics are a little outdated of this game :-( needs upgrade!
when will it be available for mac
OpenArena supports Windows (Win9x, XP, Vista, and Win7) , Linux (most distros), Mac OS X and BSD.
For the few Mac and BSD users, I strongly suggest that you visit the OpenArena Forum - Openarena.ws
Desura does not support Mac or BSD (at this time) therefore this information is not listed here
However, you can download the game and the latest stable patch from its web site:
OpenArena 0.8.1: Openarena.ws
OpenArena 0.8.5 patch (requires OA 0.8.1): Openarena.ws
The download supports all mentioned Operating Systems. You only need to extract the contents, there is no installer.
I'm getting the message "no response from master server" when I try to play online and simulaneously my ethernet drops and takes a few seconds to reconnect when I return to the desktop.
The Linux versions are now available for everyone.
If you download the game in time...
The WASP Clan is hosting a public 2 hour FragFest called Captured and Tagged 4 Xmas! on Sunday, 18 December 2011.
.
Featuring:
OpenArena 0.8.5 (A free, legal, OpenSource Game similar to Quake III but more advanced. The download package includes support for all major operating systems - Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.)
Excessive Plus 2.2b (An OpenArena Modification)
.
Full details at their web site: Oa.goquake.com
The Linux versions are now up here and available for everyone.
AFAIK all versions (Win/Lin/Mac) come in the same file.
