1983. The height of The Troubles, and the Cold War.

Northern Ireland, and in particular County Armagh and County Down, have been wracked by recent attacks on the RUC, the Army, and the civilian populace. According to Intelligence reports, this is believed to be due to a recent split in the Provisional IRA, with the hardliners forming their own paramilitary organisation:

The Ultach Fuascailt Armtha, or the Ulster Liberation Army.

You take the role of 29 year old Sgt. John Casey, a member of The Increment, a shadowy black ops unit comprised of SAS, SBS, and Intelligence operatives set up in the early 70‘s to deal with threats against the crown, and NATO.

The Increment's Blue Team have been dispatched to the province in an attempt to cripple the new splinter group by tracking down and eliminating or capturing their leadership before there are further attacks, via any means necessary.

The threat has to be eliminated before it is too late.

Failure is not an option.

Main Gameplay Features:

  • Over 30 Weapons - As our game is going to be a [F]irst [P]erson [S]hooter – we’re trying to implement a wide array of weapons for the player to use.  Each weapon has its own particular values, and will be useful in certain situations, while being not as effective in others.
  • Accurate portrayal of Northern Ireland - bias, is a problem with all media, and in particular, Northern Ireland. We're hoping that we can create something which shows Northern Ireland during the Troubles as unbiased as we can, with the environment, and the circumstances surrounding the Troubles being explored as much as possible.
  • Interaction with NPC's - NPC's play an important part in the modification, creating depth of character, advancing the story, and making the characters more realistic, not 2-dimensional.
  • Realism - We are attempting to make this as realistic as possible, with the damage done to an NPC with a specific weapon, the weapon itself, the vehicles, the NPCs, the reaction from NPCs in regards to what you do, and how you act in certain areas. Also, we are trying to make it as believable as possible - how people act, the reasons behind their actions, are all given form.
  • Compelling Storyline - The idea is to make the storyline as realistic, and as possible, as we can. This will hopefully keep the player interested, and keep playing the modification.
  • Large, complex Areas - We hope to implement large swathes of farmland similar to that of County Armagh, along with that of a metropolis - London, Londonderry, Belfast are just some of the areas that are in mind in the current plot.
  • Vehicles - We also hoping to implement as many of the vehicles that were in NI as possible, for use either by the computer to transport the player, or, for the player to actively use.
  • Different angles to approach an objective - does the player go for stealth option, go in guns blazing, or do they snipe from a-far? You could take many angles to get into a town over the fields, for example, or different routes to get to the objective.

Well, today we're celebrating one year in development. We've come a long way from when we first began this project, and we'll hopefully continue at that rate for a long time.

We've had numerous set backs - not least, something nearing 4 engine changes, from Source, to CryEngine2, to Chrome4 (Almost), and now Unreal3; and numerous internal changes - but we're still going strong.

I'd also like to thank all those who have, and are still supporting us in our development of this project. Its not an easy subject to cover by any means, and all support from members of the public is as always greatly appreciated.

As I set a deadline for about the 23/24 December for a load of work by the team to be done, you can expect a monstrous update then, and possibly... even some in game shots. Yes, we've finally reached that stage where we can start showing ingame stuff to you again.

So - please stay tuned, and watch out on the night of the 24th, when you'll be updated with our Christmas bonaza. Normal service, and updates, will continue from that point, I apologise for the fact that we haven't been showing the same level of quality news updates, but we'll resume normal service on the 24th.

Also, any critique on the box art (Which is effectively a placeholder) would be appreciated!

Happy holidays all!

As a few of you might have found out, our website is currently down due to server problems.

This should hopefully be rectified by the weekend.

Hmm, I fail to see what you mean. Considering we might actually have ingame shots by New Years... I'd say we've actually improved the workflow dramatically from when we were using Crysis, don't you?

YasserD,

Under the terms of the UDK licensing agreement, we are allowed to use it for commercial purposes, provided we pay 25% of the profits over $5000 to Epic.

At present, we aren't looking for a publisher, we will look in the future when we have developed the product more. Thanks for the offer, however.

Hey, guys .. "Northern Ireland - 1983" looks pretty interesting but if you don't want to waste time then don't add Yasser D into your team. Yasser used to "work" in my team and he did nothing except talking nonesens and disrespecting my fellow developers. And yasser come on dont talk nonesens. Yasser you are NOT a publisher. He thinks he has a publishing team. And yasser don't you see the difference between a publisher (ubisoft, activision,etc) and a publishing team ? The publishing team = the publisher ! And yasser you are not working at Ubisoft or any other publisher so you can't call yourself a publishing team. lol

Wish you guys from the "northern Ireland" project good luck and success

@yasserD

Well actually we're able to use it for commercial purposes - in other words, we can make the game and sell it without a single problem!

That's mainly why we have switched to UE3 - check the FAQ section for more details! :)

Oh, and about your proposition - please contact Squiggers via PM, alright? ;)

@MRP_REMEDY

Basically, we want to make a commercial game using indie/mod resources.

A little hybrid indeedly it is ;)

Will we succeed? You'll see! ;)
