Neuromancer | 2007 Tech Demo
Apr 08, 2007 Full Version 1 commentNeuromancer | 2007 Tech Demo featuring 1 level of the game.

Neuromancer Based on the William Gibson Novel Neuromancer, the novel that defined Cyberpunk as a sub-genre of Science Fiction Literature and Media.
This game is still in production - release date has been recalled as the nature of the project has changed. No release date has been set.
Neuromancer is the intellectual property of William Gibson and was registered in 1984 under US Copyright, the book was published by Ace books and Penguin Books in the US. A game by Interplay Interactive was released in 1989 with the same name, the team behind this remake acknowledges their right as publishers of the 1989 game IP which this remake is based on as well as MediaGenics(Activision) and Electronic Arts, in recent times however these parties have each denied any participation in the ownership of trademarks or copyrights.
Furthermore a motion picture was registered around 2003 under copyright and is still in production however under a new production company- this game remake acknowledges their rights to a film adaptation of the Novel by Williamg Gibson. This remake also acknowledges the graphic novel copyrighted by Marvel Comics in the US with the same name as well.
It has come to my attention that the Video Game's rights belong to Cabana Boy Productions however this company was bankrupted only a few years ago when it tried to fund production of the first Neuromancer film under direction of Chris Cunningham. Sadly the rights to Neuromancer the game can't be tracked down by myself at present as I'm having difficulties finding who owns them now. If you represent any party that may know who is now in possesion of these rights please do not hesistate to contact me immediately.
None of these parties listed are involved with the production of this remake. This is a purely fanbased remake which I am developing for free of charge and for no profit as a test of my skills. This remake is for educational purporses and for free distribution to the public.
I have sought permissions but have had no luck in contacting these people. If you represent one of these parties please do not hesitate to get in touch with me immediately.
I will hopefully be in touch with Seven Arts Pictures and William Gibson's Agent in the comming months to negotiate permissions as these two parties are the main concerns I have towards releasing content.
The game has now been changed to Episodic distribution, I will be adding these episodes as Mods to this ModDB profile.
Neuromancer 2007 Tech Demo 1 - Requires Quicktime
Please note that Neuromancer 2007 has been discontinued because of a scope and design change. The distribution method displayed at the end of the game is redundant and being a tech demo the game fails to represent the quality of the final product in any way.
Epsiode 1: Chiba City Blues
Tech Demo 2.0 is scheduled for this episode as a demonstration of the new content and multi-platform editions of the game. No set release date has been given at this point.
Episode 2: The Shopping Expidition
Episode 3: Midnight In The Rue Jules Verne
Epsiode 4: The Straylight Run
A possible 5th Episode could be made based on the success of the inital game.
The scope and mission statement of this project is as follows:
Please note that Neuromancer is an adult video game. Using TIGRS this video game is rated ADULT. No one under the age of 18 should be exposed to this game. The game will feature adequate functions for concerned parents to lock the game out so that their child cannot access the game and the game will come standard with the lock on, though it will be easy to remove as to allow genuine over 18 Adult gamers ease of access to the game. It is the parental responsibility that no child is given access to this game and I as the developer cannot be held responcible for misuse of this content by a minor as I have already provided the means of self-censorship and its your choice to use it or not. Neuromancer is an adult story and depicts very strong drug usage as well as sexual references.

In no way does Neuromancer force or encourage the user to take drugs nor does it give the user control over the action, the drug references in this game are plot devices and not gameplay devices so they don't add anything to the user's experience rather to tell a story about the protagonists path to self destruction. Drug usage and the sexual references in the game will not be an interactive part of this game and I apologize in advance if such content offends you.
For more information on these ratings go to Tigrs.org

Big thanks to the guys at Internode Games Network. They've agreed to host a mirror for my work and will provide a lot of publicity for the project.

So feel free to download there if the other mirrors are slow.
Just found a bug in the tech demo. Rapidly clicking through the convo with Ratz will cause a crash if you haven't aquired his money yet. So be careful.
Pretty cool, it's enjoyable. The lighting on your character is a little strange though. A very nice tech demo, when this comes out I will definately download it :)
I'm working on the main characters animations, they needed to be tweaked a bit, so I redid them using a digital camera. Which gave me a brilliant idea for when I have to do it again. Anyone ever played Under A Killing Moon? Well I'm thinking of using the same techinque that Chris Jones used to animate the sprites. Basically I need a BLACK and WHITE screen, my WebCam that can take video and some Cyberpunk clothes. Essentially meaning that I wouldn't have to touch the sprites anymore and that would take care of the hard parts of the main character. It's a pretty good idea and very cost effective (Only have to pay for a big board, I've already got some old paint spray cans :D.
I'll fix the PAX system shortly.

I am really hugely sorry for this but a huge Crash is occuring in the PAX code. I have no idea why and I think it'll take a while to fix it so I might need another 2 days to get this finalised. I am really sorry for this. It has become very difficult to get this game out (because I've had other comitments) so I will get this out to the public once it is safe to do so. This is probably for the best and for your own safety.
The PAX is working, I'll have the convosations finnished by tonight. Then I'll be working on fixing the animations for the Main character as they are quite broken at the moment. I've also coded the movement so that it is more smoother, it truely makes a difference.
I've got the installer finnished, I'll get the Launcher ready and then hopefully I can release this in really soon.
So its the 6th today (going by US standards) that means I have 1 day left.
Okay I've reduced the TechDemo to 1 scene as I've already reached well over 18MB for the installer. There are 2 FMVs at present 1. A loader and 2. The introduction scene which currently has a typo. I have left out my "where have all the cowboys gone" story because its not ready for the game and I have some research to do before hand. So far Ratz is working 100% He talks, blinks and looks around. I haven't moved the arm because that'd take too long. Main character wise so far he is pretty static and bald, I'll be fixing that soon though so that you can all move around the bar. I've got to fix the speech bubbles because for some reason they fucked up in Vista - but I think I've fixed it now. The interface will be left out for this tech demo because I'm not happy with it, instead you'll be able to talk and access everything minimalist. I actually like how it looks and I'm considering sticking with it. Maybe adding a bar at the bottom of the screen for the status stuff and inventory.
The game is fairly laggy, I hope it runs fine on everyone's computers because I have a pretty decent computer and it seems to lag still. I'm guessing that its normal as the engine is a bit shakey. The Aero problems seem to have gone. But I don't trust Vista so let me know if something happens.
I'm aiming to just get this release out to to public so I'm scrapping stuff that will come in handy for the Alpha later in the year. The animations and graphics are pretty solid but the facial expressions exists within a box only - I will be correcting this later on, its just a test for the demo.
The window is still the same unfortunately, because I didn't want to include the new version I made just yet. (this new version lights up and has animations) But yeah I just want the demo out and that way I can concentrait on getting the Alpha ready. The tech demo was just to prove to the public and myself that this project is feasible, I think it proves it.
Screenshots and Release coming soon :D keep watching.
Quick update to the profile and website. Release is on the 7th of April. Sorry for the delay.
The progress bars are now featured on the ModDB profile. They'll still be on the site.
The next 3 days are going to be non-stop work on Neuromancer. I'll upload some screenshots - you'll be amazed by the changes to chatsubo, ratz and the main character.
I'll update the site tommorow. Release date has been moved to the 7th of April. I'm really sorry about that but I'm trying as hard as I can to get this ready. I'm finnishing the animations at the moment so I don't think we're going to have the tech demo in a day.
Sorry! :(
