Miner Wars 2081 is a 6DOF action-survival space-shooter simulation-game set in the year 2081, 10 years after the destruction of all planetary objects in the Solar System. You operate an advanced mining ship in a fully destructible and open-world environment, which remains persistent as you complete missions or play online with others. Realism and survival are key aspects of gameplay. Inventory and the way you use resources such as fuel, ammunition, oxygen, ore, and weapons are important when surrounded by dozens of warring factions. The gameplay is driven by an epic story and offers a choice of single player, co-op, and death-match multi-player. The story will introduce you to many types of missions: rescue, exploration, revenge, base defense, theft, transportation, stealth, search and destroy, pure harvesting, racing, or just flying around and destroying everything you see.

At the time of writing this review, Ver: 01.074.006 - which you download through desura, does not even work (unless you only plan to fly about). It will crash after 4-8 minutes of gameplay or when you try to mine anything. When I asked about this on there forums, they said it was a bug that had been fixed and suggested that I download the Test build (which is currently at: Ver: 01.077.003) and the only way to obtain this is via a third party website (which you must register on) or by an extremely slow torrent.

So, wanting to actually see this game in action, I downloaded the torrent. I installed the test version. Loaded up the game and for the next hour, spent my time trying to actually get into the game. Why did it take me an hour you ask? Simply because everytime I tried to play a "single player" mode, be it sandbox or story mode, I got a network connection to server error. Now, I have a 20mb line which I tested and its working fine so that wasnt the problem. But anyway, the community said to just keep trying and eventually it will work so I continued to battle away on the off chance they were right.

Finally I connected to the game and all was looking good, nice graphics, seemed stable...until you try to fight an enemy...Then the graphics seem to flip out and you get major screen lag. This also happens when you find a base inside an asteroid. Incase anyones wondering, I have a quad core 3.0ghz processor and a 580GTi card and 8gb RAM, so it was definitly not my computers fault. I tried setting the graphics to minium but this did not resolve the issue. For test purposes, I decided to hop back onto the 1.074 build and just fly around to see if the issue was on that build as well...it wasnt. As long as I only flew about the game ran wonderfully on extreme gfx and was beatiful so I can only assume the test build is bugged aswell and as it is this game is definitly not 50% complete like the developers are telling us.
