Minecraft is a sandbox construction game created by Mojang AB. It's development started around the 10th of May 2009. Pre-orders for the full game started being accepted on the 13th of June, 2009.

Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. At night monsters come out, make sure to build a shelter before that happens. It also has music by C418.

I've renamed the old version of the game "Minecraft Classic", and will be slowly phasing it out. I won't remove it, though. Just hide it.

~ Microsoft bought Minecraft ~

On his own blog Mojang announced a few days ago that they and consequently their success Minecraft now sold to Microsoft. The sum is the entire two and a half billion dollars. Those who now stood in front of the running of the game - Markus "Notch" Persson, Carl Manneh and Jacob Pors - on the other hand not part of the game anymore and continue with other projects.

Microsoft told the people there that they have a great game plan, and that they will continue to develop Minecraft on all the consoles that have become available - and yes, that's including Playstation consoles. People asked Xbox boss Phil Spencer about this and was told about the purchase, this is what Phil Spencer said on the matter:

"Three years ago we started working on Minecraft with Mojang, and at that time we did not know quite what we were going to accomplish. Following year we launched it, and it became the best selling game on Xbox 360 ever. If you've been following you will see that it still has to be on the leaderboards on Xbox LIVE. there is a game that has found an audience on touch devices, consoles and of course at their home on the PC platform. Wherever you play, the we continue to develop and innovate Minecraft on all these platforms.

"One thing that must be clear is that Microsoft and the Xbox team is very focused on gaming., We will learn a lot by working with a community that is as lively as that found in Minecraft. And players need to know that we meet this with a plan, and a capstone will always be listening to Minecraft fans what they want."

Many people will probably think that Notch agreed to this because of the huge sums of money, but even he believes that the motivation to do something as big as that here is a very different place.

On his blog, he says that he is not able to be at the forefront of a large project that Minecraft now has become, and that it is not just about money but also about his own mind. Now he will return to the small experiments, and although he says he's going to leave a project once it becomes as big as Minecraft.

Today I miss the alpha graphics. I don't think pixelated textures and smooth shadows is a good combination for this game. I play the game with lower graphics on my PC (though it can handle the game with ease on maximum graphics) only to get closer to the old time, but no- it doesn't work as much as I want. I am not complaining about the gameplay- just the graphics.

I loved minecraft at first, but now it's rather boring. They need to start updating regularly, and stop relying on mods to gain popularity. It shouldn't take them so much effort as to add a different bow or spears or something. Aesthetic items like that is what i want. More animals, more things to make, and etc. etc. I would like to see more effort put in. The wooden bow is getting old...

Yeah, and the 5 types of swords are also getting old. There should really be some more different weapons. Same with armors. And mobs. And dimensions. And... everything.

The game was created in 48 hours by one man in 2009.... You can kill things, weapons arn't the most important thing to focus on at the moment.

People need to stop focusing on the idea that a sandbox game has to have some proper combat. The lackluster "adventure" content is not keeping my creative side entertained. All I need in minecraft is more blocks, biomes and some new nature type to keep me entertained. That's why I enjoy minecraft, not to keep clicking the left mouse button in hopes of killing something.

Kuznetsovsky Sep 17 2013, 9:32am replied:

I don't think people are asking for a proper combat system or more weapons/armor, but rather an objective, something to do. I totally understand that for less "creative" players, Minecraft's fun ends up pretty soon.

Take Terraria as an example - it has one dimension less, but the exploration feels much deeper and entertaining.

However, as you said, the main attractive of Minecraft is, precisely, creating. With modding support, I'm pretty sure both kind of players would be more than satisfied...

Minecraft is a small building game that looks like it will be very boring at first glance. You look, and you see blocks, you see animals and you see people building dirt houses. Without knowing the mechanics, it cannot be understood. However, once you play, you can suddenly see why people enjoy the game. Minecraft is portrayed as a building game. You put blocks down and build things, which is reflected in the only easily accessible free version. Minecraft is NOT simply a block building game. It…
