In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the earth’s surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age.

The year is now 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside.

You are Artyom, born in the last days before the fire, but raised Underground. Having never ventured beyond your Metro Station-City limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the Metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat. Your journey takes you from the forgotten catacombs beneath the subway to the desolate wastelands above, where your actions will determine the fate of mankind.

yes Metro was a book before Stalker but Stalker was a Russian movie back in 1979...so I think Stalker wins the "whose idea came first" fight

Dude, Stalker by Tarkovsky had almost nothing in common with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
The only thing they had in common was the Zone, and that it was dangerous. It's got nothing to do with nuclear radiation or whatever. The Chernobyl incident even took place after the movie was made.

Metro 2033 - the book - has absolutely nothing in common with Stalker - the movie. The games however, are quite alike, because neither the book nor the film would have been translated well into a game without mutants, anomalies, radiation, et cetera. Not to mention they were made by people who were once one team.

The game looks interesting,I loved the STALKER series and this looks to be in the same vein, but from what I've heard about it I'll pass until someone at least comes up with a quicksave mod.

The book was released in 2002, long before STALKER was released, so if anything, GSC could easily have copied elements off of Metro 2033...

Regardless, pointless comparisons imho.

Stalker was based mostly off of the russian movie that came out in the 70s of the same name, which in turn is based off of, roadside picnic.

A splendid game with stunning elements and captivating storyline.
The atmosphere is delightfully thick and powerful with heavy design to back it all up.

Sadly, the very restrictive gameplay progression, narrative direction, weak audio aspects, low replay value and arcade like game mechanics are drawbacks that cannot be ignored.
