So we finally have a solid release date for the next big Metal Drift update! Jan. 17th!

We’re packing a lot of goodness into this one. It’s really multiple updates worth of goodness in one. The big addition is a brand new deck, complete with an entirely new look! If you were sick of beige and metallic blue, we’re mixing it up with greens and purples!

Next big change is the combination of our demo and full-copy servers! This will give everyone more actual humans to destroy.

Lastly, the HUD has been completely overhauled. After 3 years, finally every weapon has its own reticle! The power up animation is now identical, and obvious, across all weapons. Also added; a widget to indicate turret/chassis alignment, and a ‘boost’ indicator.

The new deck was holding everything up. It’s actually taken 2+ years to hammer this sucker out. I foolishly tried about a dozen new game-play ideas before I finally came back to the tried and true elements that we love about our existing decks.

The new deck, ‘Javelin’, is more open; so rockets are probably going to get some more play here. But pacing and flow are similar to ‘Master’ (I hope).

I decided to play around with some joystick emulators and have made a pretty good 360 controller setup in Metal Drift.

what I like about the art here is that it looks great and will run on many systems. Too much emphasis on graphics and not enough on gameplay is the problem with PC games IMO. These graphics are GOOD ENOUGH. I would absolutely love to see a remake of Battletech: 3025 done by these guys (the cockpits remind me a Battlemech)

How about it guys, there's still a big niche market for an online BT game and the only people doing work with the IP are modders. I'm sure MS would love to make some cash off of an IP thats mothballed presently.

I was a big Battletech fan back in the day - played the boardgame and the early 3D games as well. These days I'm not sure that big lumbering mechs are all that fun to play in real-time. I'd rather play them as a turn-based strategy game like Front Mission.

Having said that, I am trying to convince Weston that we need to do a small-bot style game (think Appleseed sized mechs). Fast, maneuverable, and they could play with drift-tanks in the same environments.

welp, Ubi came out with War World for XBLA and the PC and neither fared very well. The game fits the style you mentioned.

I think publishers underestimate the capacity for peoples enjoyment with a game that has complex, simulation-like aspects such as BT. Steel Battalion and Chromehounds (not to mention BT:3025 which had 30k active beta testers ready to pay the monthly fee before EA pulled the plug on the eve of its launch) all of which were quite successful given the type of games they were.

That's interesting, I hadn't heard that 30k number. That's a failure for a huge publisher like EA, but very good for a small developer.

I am never a big fan of off topic discussion and or reply/comments

Incase you see a resmemblance to Battlezone 1 or 2, There is, And you can wait for metal drift while you play BZII There are still tons of active players and a large community

Just be sure to Install your old BattlezoneII and put on the 1.3pb4a patch located at Bzuniverse.com

There are still tons of hosted games every day

Metal Drift Reminds me to much of BZII to be not playing it. It's almost a sin

I am looking forward to Metal Drift and i am Intised to see more news, Thank you.

I suggest that you do not bury this comment as it does relate somewhat to Metal Drift and Battlezone I or II

There is no longer an active community to Battlezone I.

Thank you
