Men of War: Assault Squad is the new title in the Men of War series. Assault Squad takes place across the globe during the height of World War II and features a completely new cooperative skirmish game mode with access to five different nations (Russia, Germany, USA, Commonwealth and – for the first time ever in the Men of War series – Japan) as well as increased realism and accessibility. The expansion pack will deliver fans and newcomers an intense new WW2 spectacle with almost limitless replayability.

Like previous games in the series, Men of War: Assault Squad includes the unique “direct control” feature which enables players to maneuver units using the directional keys, rather than pointing and clicking. PC Generals can get behind the controls of a tank to smash through obstacles, crush soldiers under its tracks and fire armor-piercing shells at enemy emplacements, or take control of individual soldiers as they fight.

Hello all,

So, if you read my description you should already have decent idea as to what the mod's about. If not, well, my goal is to flesh out Men of War a bit using Condemned Heroes models (which are seeing widespread use throughout AS1 and AS2 at this point) and my own textures to create as much variety as possible while staying (somewhat) historically accurate, focusing on the Eastern Front during the Second World War and all participating forces. At the moment, it's just a skin pack/modder's resource. That being said, I still have a tremendous amount of work to do before I feel that a release of any of my work is justified.

So far, I've (mostly) finished textures for Red Army enlisted troops with the 1943 tunic with shoulder boards. Once I am able to either find someone who will allow the use of their models with no shoulder boards (which I have seen floating around) or I am able to figure out how to decompile Men of War's models, they will have to stay that way, so if anyone could help out with that, it would be much appreciated.

I'm well into work on Soviet naval troops, and once I'm finished with those, I'll start work on Officer's and NKVD. Once these are finished, and a few miscellaneous textures are completed, the Soviet Armed Forces will be ready for the first release. Once that's done and out of the way, I'll work on adding any requests for the Soviets and probably some more various units that I didn't think were important enough for the first release. Then work will start on the Axis,which includes the German Wehrmacht (Heer and Luftwaffe, probably not the Kriegsmarine but we'll see), the Waffen-SS, RONA, the ROA, Italy, Romania, and whatever else I happen to think of.

As the Axis are several factions, and have a TREMENDOUS amount of variation, these will obviously take the longest and will be split into multiple releases. As it stands now, the mod will simply add new (albeit a massive amount) textures, which is more of a modder's resource to be honest, but I don't like to call it that. I doubt I'll be altering the game very much, to help with compatibility between AS1 and AS2, and because there are already several total conversions for both games and I don't think I'll be able to compete with them, but I'll see what everyone has to say, and maybe someday this will become something more.

I'll be more than happy to listen to your requests, although to be honest I probably plan on adding most everything you could possibly want. I'd also like to apologize for the lack of pictures, I've been so focused on getting the textures finished in Photoshop, I've neglected actually putting them in-game, but don't worry, you'll be seeing plenty of screenshots soon! I'm looking forward to sharing my work with everyone!

de_lisle is not from the Cold War mod. Could be a compatibility issue with other mods you are running.

The same here, i was interested in making freeplay game mods, and it came out that realy huge maps either won't load or save, or will lag too much.

Assault Squad is essentially the shinier more visually appealing version of Men of War, I dont find that it adds a lot other than the skirmish mode, some new maps. some new units, and some new models replacing pre-existing ones. It's not exactly groundbreaking however, seeing as it pretty much builds off of the success of it's predecessor, I'm really not even sure why Assault squad was even made, my guess was targetting a streamlined Multiplayer platform, but the game is equally popular as a singleplayer…

Men of War is successful because each game naturally generates its own narrative. It is brilliant because it has character. It is great because (in campaign missions at least) you feel attached to your troops. Assault Squad is Men of War minus all of this, and is horrid. Its lone addition is the new Skirmish mode: a depressing, soulless grind against entrenched AI.
