Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries is a battlemech piloting simulation and part of the Mechwarrior and Battletech universe unleashed by FASA Studios. In April 2010, MekTek received permission from Microsoft to release the game for free using their MekMatch torrenting program. Now that MekTek has refocused its energies on Heavy Gear, it is up to the community to keep the classic mech piloting tradition alive. This group will also serve as a platform for downloading new content created by the community, including new maps,mods and mech decals, some of which have been hosted by other enthusiast sites.
Description
Mechwarrior 4 mercs mektek .003c version, unzip the folder to the desired location and run the autoconfig for the resolution settings and such and it's good to go.

Is this the last known stable version? Have there been any modifications done to it? I'm trying to find the most "pure" final release of this to download so that I can then know what behaviour exactly it should have and that only my tweaks will affect it rather than anything that was changed before it was packaged and put up for download here.
Could someone please tell me how to use this, the finished product isn't in a zip folder and I can't interact with it at all
its a .rar file use 7zip to unpack
I may be 3 years 5 months and a week late, but it's a .rar file, which can be opened similarly to a zip file. right click -> open with -> and then use whichever program you normally use for zip files.
Does this version works on LAN? The 3.1 version won't work on LAN.
It works and it is as awesome as my nostalgic heart remembers, just be mindful I needed to watch a video on youtube by WhamyKaBlamy titled "Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries (Mekpak 3.1) - Setting up on Windows 10"
he didnt download from moddb but same steps apply, and they worked for me, you pay attention and have patience its worth it.
UPDATE:
got new machine with windows 10 and with an Nvidia GC , and the step described in the video I referenced are no longer enough, I needed to take some extra steps:
go to MEKTEK folder Merc4.exe/Assets/Binaries
and delete or rename Imagehlp.dll.
Run Autoconfig_MERCS.exe as administrator.
Again, all these steps in addition to those described in the video from WhamyKaBlamy, seriously guys a classic definitely worth your time.
