LonewolfDS: Fire On the Water v1.0
Dec 12, 2008 Full Version 1 commentVersion 1.0 of LoneWolfDS. The second book in the Lone Wolf series.
For those who didn't know about Gamebooks, they were novels which had a nice success during the 80's, and which were allowing the readers to choose their own path by jumping from one numbered section to another, in a fun and interactive way. They were introducing the concepts of inventory, enemies fights, random dice results, and other nice ideas which were the precursors of what we find today in role playing video games.
The philosophy behind the port of the Lone Wolf books to the DS is to let the console handle all the rules related to combats, stats and so on, so the player can be really immersed in the story and doesn't need to bother with the gameplay elements.
For now, only the first volume of the series, called "Flight From The Dark", is available. If people show enough interest in this first book, other volumes will be ported too. So if you find a bug, have a suggestion, or simply want to contact me, please feel free to write to lonewolfds(AT)free.fr
The search is on to find the hottest indie game of 2009, so if
you believe this is the one - vote for it. Everybody can vote
all they want, however, guest votes only count in the event
of a tie. For rules, prizes, movies & more - head on over
to the official 2009 awards page. Good luck to all!

Could someone please direct me to a place where I can buy the hardware neccesary to get this onto my DS. (Cartridges, drivers, etc.)
ah man i love this concept i'll certainly get it when i get my DS later this year :p but well euhm yeah i never thought of it but dragonlord got a point there think about the lefties :p ( coz im one of them too :p )
This is amazing stuff, and should be published. I want to find this in the stores!
Excellent concept and what looks to be a good implementation. Keep it up!
Wow, I was pretty shocked when I heard about this game. I always think I'm the only one who still remembers the Lone Wolf books. I was a huge fan of them back in the early 90's, (I don't think they were available in North America before then) so much so that I decided to make Lone Wolf my internet handle. (Which as you can see, I still use to this day.) I only learned just recently that they started rereleasing the books last summer which I'm also excited about. If anyone has tried this yet on a DS emulator, please let us know if it worked.
Just tried. It doesn't work in Desmume.
Does that work with an emulator :)
I've heard it does.
Bummer for no left-hand setup ( feels left out :( ). Why no simple wrapper-class approach? Just moving all screen related calculations into a interfaced class and then create an implementation for left and right. Requires not a lot of work just a bit of clever design ;)
Wow, that looks pretty damn cool. I always used to read Gamebooks, and keep track of everything on a piece of paper. Kudos to the creators of this game. :)
