The new Left 4 Dead 2 gamemode has been announced: Scavenge

Okay we found a chainsaw, a fuel can and a Jockey. Not too bad a haul today...Okay we found a chainsaw, a fuel can and a Jockey. Not too bad a haul today...

So Valve have recently announced their new game mode for Left 4 Dead: Scavenge. The mode features the four survivors fighting to find 16 gas cans over the entire map. With these cans they can fill up a generator to win the match. The game is split up over 6 rounds (three per team), each round lasting 120 seconds (2 Mins). When a survivor gets a new gas can it will add 20 seconds to their timer, i am not sure if this means that when the Survivors find one then they get an extra 20 seconds or when they use it to fill up the generator they get 20 seconds. or even both The original article is not clear about that. If the timer runs out and there is a Survivor holding a gas can then they go into overtime until the generator is up and running or an infected knock it from their hands. The original source article does not explain whether this applies if there is like 10 cans left and you find one when the timer runs out, meaning that you have 9 left to find. Does you get time to find the remaining 9 or when the Survivors fill up the generator this will give them an automatic win?

Now the opposing Team are the Infected again, like Versus. They’re job is obviously to stop this happening, they can pounce and knock the gas cans out of the Survivors hands. The Spitter can actually detonate the explosive cans with its acid shot. The Survivors also have to be careful of their fire incase they hit the cans. So i wonder if people will crouch in front of gas cans and wait until a Survivor shoots at them and then jump out of the way to get them to blow up the can. Like what you can do with the witch in Versus.

There will be 6 new maps for this campaign, some may be edited versions of the originals. But at least we get a lot of areas to play this in. The only problems i have with the new gamemode is that if a can gets exploded and you need like 16 to fill a generator does that mean that you’ve lost? Or do you only need 10 to fill the generator giving you about 6 cans that are expendable? Or if you loose a can does that mean that it takes less cans to fill up? If so then surley the survivors could go around shooting cans and only hang onto one.

This was not what i was expecting to come from Valve. I am not annoyed by it or let down by it, i am intrigued, it shows something different, something that you do not get in other games like this (as far as i know). A while ago Valve hinted on the new game mode by saying it was 4 v 4. But i was hoping for something like two Survival teams were fighting to get to the same point in a campaign, like a finale or something. The last team there looses and gets left to fight the horde alone until death. That might be interesting to see. Or even there are 8 survivors, two teams of 4 and they have to come together in order to fight a battle against the increasing number of infected. Do you have any ideas for new gameplay modes? If so then let us know by leaving a message in this thread. Also this is the original article.

Interesting new game mode...I always liked the idea of a multiplayer game type that had players scavenging for supplies
