Valve have announced today that Francis, Bill, Zoey and Louis from Left 4 Dead 1 are about to journey south to team up with Coach, Rochelle, Ellis and Nick in the very first add-on to Left 4 Dead 2.

The new campaign entitled "The Passing" takes place just after the "Dead Center" campaign and will include a new uncommon common infected class and also a couple of new weapons. Anyway, instead of me having to reword it all and pound on my keyboard till my fingers bleed, I'll simply quote what appeared on the Steam Community L4D2 Group today...

Valve wrote: Dubbed "The Passing," the first game add-on for L4D2 brings the original Left 4 Dead (L4D1) Survivors down south for a meeting with the L4D2 cast, while delivering new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay.

Targeted for release in early spring, "The Passing" takes place just after the Dead Center campaign of L4D2. Set in a small town in rural Georgia, players assume the role of the L4D2 Survivors as they meet with the L4D1 characters.

In addition to the new co-operative campaign and associated narrative, "The Passing" will include new arenas for Survival, Versus and Scavenge mode and introduce a new co-operative challenge mode of play. The Passing will also include a new "uncommon common" zombie class, melee weapon, and firearm.

"The Passing will become the most important campaign in the Left 4 Dead story, as all the Survivors are being called together in one campaign," said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. "It will also be a huge offering of new gameplay content, with something new for every game mode plus a new uncommon common and weaponry."

Many of us have speculated in the past about how interesting and fun it would be if the original survivors were brought back to play a roll in L4D2, so this is great news and something to really look forward to this coming Spring 2010, and hopefully it's just the first add-on of many! Fingers Crossed!

YES!!! the two teams of survivors were awesome enough apart but together, that's just crazy! That will probably open up some new story elements. Oh and the new weapons and uncommon common are cool to.

Once it's released, who's betting the community will edit into a versus game of l4d Vs. L4d2?

Its been confirmed there will not be 8 player co-op already.

There should be two teams of survivors and infected with different starting points. Lets not keep em together but instead there should be a scripted randomization so that Survivor A could be on a team with all l4d2 besides Survivor B or like example: Ellis,Zoey,Nick,Louis. Just an idea which will never get anything but a glance at. It would be interesting to see such a thing.
