KingpinQ3 Patch for Gtk-Radiant
Dec 20, 2007 Mapping Tool 0 commentsKingpinQ3 patch for Gtk-Radiant has been added to download section.
KingpinQ3 is a clone of Xatrix's Kingpin - Life of Crime.
Our goal is to merge Kingpin's unique atmosphere and gameplay with the capabilites of the Id-Tech3 engine. The Id-Tech3 engine was released under the GPL a few years ago and KingpinQ3 is based on this engine which has been significantly modified.
KinpinQ3 never was a Quake3 mod and it never will be. We have started the development of KingpinQ3 after the GPL-release. KingpinQ3 is a noncommercial project, it will be a FREE standalone game available for PC, Mac, Linux. We have no public releases yet (only internal alphas).
KingpinQ3 will provide the following gamemodes:
All gamemodes listed above can be played with four different weapon-modes:
KingpinQ3 is designed as a Online-Multiplayergame only, but it will support bots so you can play offline against them on regular maps.
Another notable feature of KingpinQ3 is the controversial "Bunnyhop".
The project was founded in Oct. 2006 by the autor of this arcticle.
KingpinQ3 is, as already mentioned above, a clone of Kingpin and this fact may pose the question:
Is KingpinQ3 a legal project ?
KingpinQ3 will not use any files of Kingpin at the point of release. Currently there are some original Kingpin files still in the game but they are being replaced by rebuilt versions as development continues.
Surely, cloning a game or any other product may be a controversial matter because the developers safe alot of work by cutting down the concept-phase. But I know a few products which have been cloned and they are legal products. A well-known example is Linux, Linux is a Unix clone and i've never heard anybody say "Linux is illegal".

This looks good, shame it wasn't made into a singleplayer remake as well.
Not in its first release, but maby after. Who knows yet. It is possible to add single-player to KingpinQ3, because the Id-Tech3 engine includes a very good Bot-library. We will see what happens ;-)
Excellent, Kinping was such a fun multiplayer game
Kingpin*... damn im tired
kingpig?
nice! looking good looking good...keep up the good work!
Looks good! Releasing as stand-alone or is it a mod of Quake 3? The Q3 Source is free you know, along with a license :).
Its standalone ;-)
Standaloning a game, using trademarks in the name and assets from other games is sure asking for trouble especially mixing it with a Free Software engine license only just for the free beer.
Shameful. Go back to being a Quake3 mod.
Thanks for your advice. We possibly make some mistakes during the development process but we are willing to correct them if necessary.
I'm not surprised you're one of the Open Arena Team-members. Nice game, i hope we can coexist in a peaceful way.....
