"The old slaughterhouse in the forests of Himmerland, Denmark, always had a dark history, even before the ZED outbreak came to be. Strings of freak accidents led to the facility being abruptly abandoned by its workers and transformed into a haven for squatters, drug-addicts and curious thrill-seekers. Nowadays, with Europe under plague by the ZED horde, its run-down squalor is far less of a unique sight.
When Horzine received intel that a group of survivors had taken shelter at the derelict building, they began their efforts to aid and extract them. They air-dropped them supplies - food, weapons, trader pods - and, as a bonus, managed to remotely return power to sections of the building. As plans were made to (hopefully inconspicuously) extract the survivors, the situation took a turn for the worse. Apparently as a last resort, the group had lit a smoke signal on top of the building, not only grabbing the attention of nearby helicopters, but also the ZED masses lurking in the surrounding forests. Subtlety was scrapped, and in its place, Horzine sent in the cavalry for a rescue mission and a suicide mission combined into one.

Hey, this map is a solo project I've been working on like crazy for about a month. It's set in an abandoned slaughterhouse, with scenery heavily inspired by real abandoned buildings in my area.

FEATURES

- Unique gameplay elements - thanks to Horzine, the building has power again, but the grid is very old and power can only be on in certain places at any one time.

POWER OVERRIDE
A twist on the dynamic lighting of KF2, you get to choose what sections of the building have the lights on. Lights also cannot be broken. Use the switch inside the slaughterhouse to redirect the power to either the ground floor or the basement + exterior spotlights. Wanna camp in the basement? Switch the power and turn on the lights there, but risk being disadvantaged if you have to run. Forced into the dark? Send someone to sacrifice themselves and switch on the power for the rest of the team before they're overwhelmed.
Installation
To install, place the extracted KF-Slaughterhouse-v2-2 folder in
Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\killingfloor2\KFGame\BrewedPC\Maps\
So, you should end up with "KF-Slaughterhouse-v2-2.kfm" under
BrewedPC\Maps\KF-Slaughterhouse-v2-2\
To run the map in singleplayer, launch up the game, press ~ and type "open kf-slaughterhouse-v2-1" without quotes.
I hope you like the map! It's certainly been a ride making it. I was pretty new to the UE3 editor before starting this, but I've learnt a ton and you can probably expect more maps from me further down the line. Definitely not soon though. I don't even wanna touch the SDK for a while after this. If you like it, do give it a vote! Capitalize the KF in kf-Slaughterhouse.
Couldn't get this map to work and after trying a variety of things, finally got it to work after capitalizing KF.
And like the other poster said, it could use more detail. The layout is pretty damn good, but it feels empty in almost every room. It has a lot of potential. As it is, it's like a better version of Favela.
Hey, sorry you had trouble getting it to work, mine works fine with just lowercase 'kf' otherwise I'd have put a note in the description or something... apologies. Thanks for the feedback also, much appreciated.
Could you please put the textures directly in the kfm file?
I want to host this map on our servers.
If you don't have the map locally installed the textures get downloaded as well but they are not used in the map.
Everything is invisible.
Ah my bad, thanks for letting me know. I'll look into fixing this and I'll try to post an update within the next couple days.

Cool map! 10 out of 10.
Mixed feelings about this one. To begin, visually it is stunning. The outside area is great, the grass is amazingly realistic, and the rain effect also. I can see quite a few unique things (textures, decorations etc) including the dead pigs, which is awesome. There is a visually consistent theme, all indoor areas are a dirty grey which suits well.
I didn't notice the power thing for the lights, I'll check this out next time. Sounds like a good way to add some variety to game play. The one thing that really bothers me is the positioning of the trader pods. The traders pods are located way too far away. Running towards the second pod, I actually ran straight past another closed pods. This kind of thing annoys me and basically ruins the map. If that is fixed, I'd be very happy to play this map often as it looks fantastic.
I sure hope you get back into mapping again. Great effort!
