A cheaper KarBOOM

KarBOOM is more than a year old (four, if you count its various alphas in another engine), which isn't exactly ancient in the Indie scene, but the dust has well and truly settled after its launch in October 2013 and the 12-player update last July.

For those of you who've been interested in KarBOOM, but not enough to spend $10 on a local multiplayer only game, this is what you've been waiting for!

You can also buy KarBOOM straight through KarBOOM's website!

If you're wondering about KarBOOM's future, it's likely a relatively uneventful one. Being employed has kept me busy, and has been hugely rewarding as I grow as a software developer. The little free time I have now for game development is being put into other projects.

Should any of them see the light of day, I'll be sure to put them on IndieDB, which has been amazing for KarBOOM. And as always, Twitter's a good place to find me, and though I don't tweet often, when I do, it's usually about what I'm working on.

If you haven't already, create an account here: Karboom.net
Then you'll get an email from karboom.net (sometimes it takes about half an hour, but I don't know if there's anything I can do about that) where you can "activate" your account. Click on the link, and you're good to go!

Just made an account after playing a few games offline. Got the activation mail and activated my account, but i cannot log into the game, always getting the message 'login failed'. Is the game still an open alpha with free pass for the premium features?

Hmmm... it should be working. I just tested with my account and it worked, so the server is definitely not down. I've also confirmed that your account is activated (don't worry, I can't see password information).

Are you sure you're entering your username and password correctly? I think they're included in your confirmation email, but I'm not sure (it has been a while since I set that up).

[EDIT]: Also! Yes, accounts are still being updated for free, and will likely always be -- I no longer plan to make online features "premium", but instead hope to sell the complete final version as well as offer a free demo with similar features to the alpha versions.

Just thought to try and login using the number keys above the letters and it worked. I have no idea why it doesn't work with the numpad. Yeah, numpad is on and shows that it's accepting my input. Anyway, the important part is i can login now. :)

Ah, I hadn't thought of that. Yeah, the functions I use to accept input do not interpret the numpad correctly -- I often forget this and find it annoying when manually entering a port or ip.

I'll have a look at what options WinAPI gives me, and perhaps I'll have that fixed in a future version. Thanks for the heads-up.

That's the idea. You can have 4 players share one keyboard (if your keyboard can handle that many simultaneous key-presses) and up to 8 gamepads (in theory, but I don't have that many). Local multiplayer is the BEST way to play it, and what the game was designed for. You can also play online but have several of your friends playing from your computer :)

Thanks Midgard! I forgot to put up a server today -- sorry, I had a lot of university on. I put one up now -- hopefully you're close enough that the lag isn't too bad. I've set "min players" to 3, so there'll always be at least 3 cars playing, but some might be bots.

Regarding improvement -- I think I can improve it too! But I'd love to hear suggestions, or at least specific areas that you think need improving :)
