Coming up

KarBOOM 1.1 is coming out soon - it has been delayed a little as I move from one country to another, hence me not putting a deadline on it. But it'll be a free update, and as it currently stands in development, AI has been significantly improved, new skins have been added, and bugs have been fixed.

KarBOOM
3 new skins and much smarter AI, which will be scaled down for more difficulty settings

The current plan is for each of the 3 new skins to be associated with an AI difficulty level. Beat that AI one-on-one to unlock their skin for human use.

KarBOOM
In KarBOOM 1.1, not yet released, bots easily navigate to their target

Follow me @JibbSmart on Twitter for instant updates on KarBOOM. Post here on IndieDB/Desura or message me on Twitter to let me know about bugs that need squishing in future updates.

Finally, play with controllers! I've played KarBOOM with Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii controllers (needed the nunchuck for the Wiimote, though), as well as Logitech and other generic PC gamepads. Give it a go!

And Merry Christmas!

Just tried it, thanks to the top100 list. Always loved those games with tiny cars and top view. Even at this early state, feels great. The only thing that felt wrong to me was that the cars take too much time to turn, like they're in mud or something. Do you have plans to make the turning faster? I think it would make the game more fun, at least for me. :P

Keep it up, great... little game so far. ;)

Ah nevermind, i'm stupid. I had stuff running in the background and probably this was the reason the turning felt so wrong to me. Bad timing. Just played again and it was ten times better.

I'm glad you like it :) In case you haven't tried it yet -- use the handbrake as you turn if you want to tighten your turning circle more. I've replied to your other comment below.

If you haven't already, create an account here: Karboom.net
Then you'll get an email from karboom.net (sometimes it takes about half an hour, but I don't know if there's anything I can do about that) where you can "activate" your account. Click on the link, and you're good to go!

Let me know if there are any more problems :)

Just made an account after playing a few games offline. Got the activation mail and activated my account, but i cannot log into the game, always getting the message 'login failed'. Is the game still an open alpha with free pass for the premium features?

Hmmm... it should be working. I just tested with my account and it worked, so the server is definitely not down. I've also confirmed that your account is activated (don't worry, I can't see password information).

Are you sure you're entering your username and password correctly? I think they're included in your confirmation email, but I'm not sure (it has been a while since I set that up).

[EDIT]: Also! Yes, accounts are still being updated for free, and will likely always be -- I no longer plan to make online features "premium", but instead hope to sell the complete final version as well as offer a free demo with similar features to the alpha versions.

Just thought to try and login using the number keys above the letters and it worked. I have no idea why it doesn't work with the numpad. Yeah, numpad is on and shows that it's accepting my input. Anyway, the important part is i can login now. :)

Ah, I hadn't thought of that. Yeah, the functions I use to accept input do not interpret the numpad correctly -- I often forget this and find it annoying when manually entering a port or ip.

I'll have a look at what options WinAPI gives me, and perhaps I'll have that fixed in a future version. Thanks for the heads-up.

That's the idea. You can have 4 players share one keyboard (if your keyboard can handle that many simultaneous key-presses) and up to 8 gamepads (in theory, but I don't have that many). Local multiplayer is the BEST way to play it, and what the game was designed for. You can also play online but have several of your friends playing from your computer :)
