A cheaper KarBOOM

KarBOOM is more than a year old (four, if you count its various alphas in another engine), which isn't exactly ancient in the Indie scene, but the dust has well and truly settled after its launch in October 2013 and the 12-player update last July.

For those of you who've been interested in KarBOOM, but not enough to spend $10 on a local multiplayer only game, this is what you've been waiting for!

You can also buy KarBOOM straight through KarBOOM's website!

If you're wondering about KarBOOM's future, it's likely a relatively uneventful one. Being employed has kept me busy, and has been hugely rewarding as I grow as a software developer. The little free time I have now for game development is being put into other projects.

Should any of them see the light of day, I'll be sure to put them on IndieDB, which has been amazing for KarBOOM. And as always, Twitter's a good place to find me, and though I don't tweet often, when I do, it's usually about what I'm working on.

Love the concept, game modes, modifiers and levels.
Most of all I love the fact that it supports 8 local players!

I've followed the development of your title and it's been a joy following your progress.

I have one feature request.
This is a pick up and play kind of game for people who have played 2d overhead car games, so for me and my gaming buddies this was an instant hit. :o)

However I tried it once with people who aren't used to 2d overhead car games and some of them had difficulties controlling their car and their experience wasn't equally extatic.

So my feature request is to have an option to allow players to switch to directional controls so that when they push the left thumb stick in a direction the car will turn and go in that direction. E.g. if a player is facing the bottom of the screen and pulls the stick upwards the car will turn around and go towards the top of the screen. (gas and brake/reverse can still be used in this control mode.)

That's a great suggestion, and I've certainly seen beginners struggle in the same way. I'll note this down, though don't count on it being in the next update. Limited development time means I'd rather get this update finished with its currently planned feature set than delay it further.

I believe it would make the game more fun for gaming noobs and make KarBoom even more popular at parties and big events.

It's a nice game, but lacking the option to configure keyboard (unless I missed that out), maybe add the option to run with multiple keyboards, also maybe make able for controllers without analog to play with D-pad.
Well it still gets my upvote to come to steam store ^^

It's true, no keyboard configuration options yet. It would be good, though I have other priorities at the moment with it, and very limited time to work on it.

D-pad would also be good.

Keyboard players can choose between four different preconfigured controls.

Click play, pick a game mode, pick a stage, click players, activate players and choose keyboard controls for the players.

The following keys are supported:
* Arrow keys
* WASD
* IJKL
* Home keys

If there are issues with 4 keyboard players it is a hardware issue. Most keyboards can only handle a certain amount of simultaneous keypresses. (A workaround can be to plug in several usb keyboards or use gamepads.)

This looks like a nice little racer, but can anyone if there is a way of setting up a Windows controller to play it? I know it says something about using a gamepad in the menu, but can't see a configuration option. I can only use the pad in the menu at the moment.

Hi dehyrda,

If you use your gamepad to add a player to the game in the "player" menu, that player will be controlled by that gamepad. Then you'll see a "configure gamepad" option underneath that player where you can hover your cursor over each action and press the button you want to use.

You can also change bots to gamepad players by using your gamepad cursor to click on the robot-eye icon at the top-right of the bot's setup menu.
