Volcanic ash has covered the earth, suffocating life and leaving a dead planet behind. The remaining population has resorted to scavenging and tribalism to stay alive, cannibalism and slavery being a common tale.

The player is part of a dying rural community, slowly running out of essential resources. Your goal is to travel across the plains of Central Asia to search for any glimmer of hope, a sign of a helping hand among the ruins of the old world.

Armed with a tent, an old cosmonauts parka and a rusty pistol this will be a difficult journey...

Ivan's Secrets is a survival RPG/Shooter hybrid set in the Central Asia/Russian region. It began life on modDb as a Source mod which grew to a CryEngine game as requirements expanded.

We've been quiet as we had to remake nearly all of our content to a new standard and weren't willing to show anything off. A day/night cycle was very important along with large landscapes - something Source just couldn't do.

The player follows a guided story and path across the plains, with the game being broken into day and night.

During the day the player scavenges and explores old structures and cave systems for any loot they can find, along with a place to setup camp. When night comes hostile creatures start to roam the plains so it's important to be prepared and have a secure campsite.

Having an optimal load-out and being on the move is important, bogging yourself down with assault rifles will slow you down. Ammunition is limited so choosing to run can be a more efficient option for survival.

The players inventory is fully customizable, with equipment and armour for all parts of the body. Crafting useless junk into useful items is an important skill, with the keen explorer being rewarded for gathering rare parts.

Along the journey you'll encounter various individuals who'll either aid you or stab you in the back for your actions, recognizing these differences will keep you safe. Various scattered towns and communities do exist and the occupants are willing to trade - provided you get their trust.

Expect to see frequent updates from us again. Looking forward to hearing your suggestions!

So after weeks of coding, I finally have the inventory system done! It still needs polish but the basic functionality is there.

Also, the contribute page worked great. We received around 80 ideas.

The game has nothing to do with Russia, only the ex-Soviet Union.

I really don't like the transition to cryengine. It's a great engine, but it sucks for total conversions. Not that I understand the technical reason why, but I think its well indicated by fact that total conversions never actually come out on cryengine. I really hope you break that trend.

It's just such a damn shame that you get this far on source and just ditch all that progress and incredible engine work now. BTW at least make a new moddb page, so we can follow you.

My qualm is not so much with the engine capabilities or hardware requirements of cryengine, it is without question a more modern platform. I just hope that the transition to cryengine doesn't kill the mod, as I've seen with 99% of cryengine mods. That being said, I wasn't aware that their hard drive crashed, the move seems alot more logical knowing that. I can see the large scale environments being a nice plus at least.

edit: Sorry wrong response i think.

Dude what the ****, That is the most ridiculous thing I've had the chance to read. Cryengine does not suck just because demotivated developers with wild ambitions give up on their project.

Switching to Cryengine was the best course of action for the mod not only because Source engine does not support the advanced and large STALKER like world that they hope to achieve but because they had to start from ground zero when Jlea's hard drive crashed. Now the project is kicking even better than before with content being made and implemented quickly as well as not having to put up with Source's gimmicks.

Face it, Source is aging and way too primitive to work with, it puts off so many great artists just because of all the quirks it takes just to get a simple model and texture in the game while furthermore there are so many bugs and problems that one may face due to how unstable the engine is *All of this is being said from experience, mainly the 2-3 years that Jlea has been working on the project as a source mod.*

If you truly appreciated the project you wouldn't be upset, You'd be happy that they were able to take this giant step forward with a chance to actually accomplish such a grand scale project.

I have to say i really hate how fans of mods or games have this reaction to moving to a newer engine that is better. Also a game such as this will have a massive benefit from moving to Cryengine. Developers really ought to move forward the only quirk i can think of is it not running on ancient pc's and such. I agree with Sn1pe

Uh, I don't think two months without updates being posted on this page necessarily counts the mod as dead.
