It's a sequel of Invader Attack, but much better in every possible way. I paid particular attention to the graphics. They're fully 3D and polished. Visual effects, behaviors, AI, physics and overall gameplay experience should interest even the most core shmup fans.

Report RSS Invader Attack 2, early access version available for download and purchase

With all of the game's main features and 44 levels fully finished, I'm proud to announce that the "early access" version is available for download and purchase.

The demo is an actual full version, but provides only 1 level of gameplay. The level is completed once you managed to reach the second level, so you'll need to pass the transition between levels as well. If you don't have a 3D card that supports Shader 2, then the game will crash on launch.

Invader Attack 2 (IA2) is a very modern 3D shoot 'em up (shmup) kind of game, which I'm sure you will see on your own, no need for me to go into those details, but there is a need for me to address what I mean by "early access".

When you purchase the game, the demo you downloaded will be updated to an "early access" version, v0.9.2. Even though all of the gameplay features are finished, there are 44 levels. If you reach 44th level the game will be saved so you'll be able to continue from that spot when final version gets released. The reason why I'm releasing the game 2-3 months before the schedule is because I want to see the response from the players and gather some financial support. The game has several performance issues with one severe and mostly notable at the beginning of the level, sometimes after the transition between levels. I managed to resolve all bugs leading to game crashes, so the stability of the game is high and the game is playable until level 44. Still, it won't be easy to reach that level as there are many different types of enemies and bosses, each with different AI. Because it's a bit earlier version, the game price is a bit lower than it will be once the final version gets released, but if you purchase the game now, you will save some money and I'm doing this because I value people who support my work during development.

This early release is also a way for me to hopefully gather some financial support from players who'd like to see the game finished. I saw that these early releases, commercial beta releases, etc. are fairly popular these days and it's better to release unfinished, but fully functional game than to show some concepts and videos of concepts and ask people to take a leap of faith and give you their money. So the game is there and it's fully functional.

Here are the changes since my last entry here:

v0.9.2 (Jun, 7th 2014) EARLY ACCESS RELEASE:
- Improved lighting when power laser is fired.
- Implemented additional enemy type.
- Fixed small bug in resource management logic that led to crash between areas.

v0.9.1 (May, 31st 2014):
- Solved issue with intense flickering that was happening sometimes after explosion.
- Implemented a temporary solution for abrupt random frame skipping. The solution is not good enough, the game will slow down until frame rate becomes stable.

v0.9 (May, 24th 2014):
- Finished levels for the 4th area.
- Finished 4th area boss and transitions between levels.
- Implemented new enemy type.
- Fixed a serious memory leak in collision code, the bug was bugging me since the very beginning, I didn't even know what was the problem. Phew, huge burden just lift off of my balls finally.

v0.8.9 (May, 17th 2014):
- Redesigned 4th area graphics.
- Finished 3rd area boss and transitions between levels.
- Fixed random crash during enemy landing.

Hey! Yes it's a pretty popular way of doing things these days isn't it, and fair enough, a good way to make money while finishing the game off. Sometimes games don't get that balance of the game being polished enough to offer for sale, but it sounds like you've addressed that here. Good luck with things!
