Report RSS Infinity combat prototype 2.0 !

Tomorrow, Sunday 12 November 2006, we should release (if all goes right) the new version of the combat prototype. Exact time is unknown, probably in the evening ( GMT ) or early afternoon ( USA ). Initially, we said we wouldn't release a new version of the combat prototype, but we changed our mind.

Why ? Because we want to test some new gameplay concepts, and making a separate prototype would have made no sense. Besides, there are a few things that InfinityAdmin(Flavien Brebion) wanted to improve in the ICP ( combat prototype ) 1.1

The new version if ICP will be 2.0 and will be followed by a new serie of patch until balance is adjusted. The gameplay has seriously changed.

A non-exhaustive list of the main changes can be found here.

Some ICP2.0 screenshots:

Looks like someone was inspired by Freelancer, if you know what I mean. ;)

Looking forward to this. I certainly enjoyed the first combat prototype, once the initial bugs were worked out at least.

Well... Ignore my last post. To be honest... Jack is a nice guy and ICP 2.0 will rock! remember that this is still just a prototype and FAR AWAY from how the finished version of the game will look like... The developers are always open for suggestions and listens very carefully at what their fans/players/noobs has to contribute to the gameplay and the rest of the mechanics.

So, stop flaming and start contributing!

Hey thanks everyone, if everything goes as plan the release should be today.

@Sniffman: I would say that Freelancer, like most other space games, is inspired on the same game Infinity is inspired on; Elite(mother of all space games)

Its monday CET and there is no new prototype available. Will it come within hours, days or a week? Or will I just have to wait till its validated on moddb and until there is news about it on infinity's homepage?
I was really looking forward to coming home and downloading this and giving 2.o a shot today. I hope you can deliver soon, because I'm really very interested in anything about "Infinity" and I keep watching these steps of progression with amazement and delight. From the first (internal) combat prototype to this one has been a long way, but progress is undoubtly there and it is starting to llok really good. Now if only it felt that right in the cockpit..lemme check in 2.o. It will probably be better than 1.o which was repetitive and boring after 2 hours. So good luck with further releases and see you in space!

Well, the fact is, ICP 2.0 wasn't as stable as i wanted it to be, and some patches needed ( and still need ) to be produced. I didn't think the general public would stand a game that needs to install a patch every day or so ( yeah that's the rate at which i produce patches ). Also, no mirrors are up yet, so to save bandwidth i released ICP 2.0 to a restricted public: people logging on IRC.

If you're impatient i'd suggest connecting to IRC ( server Quakenet, chatroom #InfinityGame ) to get the download instructions and know when the server will be online ( generally during the night, GMT ).

Once the last patch will be implemented ( hopefully with new weapons and missiles ), an installer will be created, mirrored, and a news / link will be publically posted on the website.
