An accurate simulation of "The Hunger Games". You're a tribute, fighting intelligent AI in a "battle royal" to be the last person standing. Inspired by the novel by Suzanne Collins and the movie by Lionsgate Films. This is a turned based combat game in 1st person perspective, with Roguelike elements. The randomly generated arena features a central "Cornucopia" filled with melee and ranged weapons along with food and other gear, surrounded by wilderness in which one can hide or forage. You may form alliances with the other tributes, and backstab or be backstabbed by your allies. In the preview image (from the audience standpoint) you can see the semicircle of 24 tributes on their platforms, the central golden Cornucopia, gear in front of and within it, and surrounding forest containing mountains and waterways. May the odds be ever in your favor! :)

2 comments by Cruiser1 on Sep 4th, 2014

The new version 3.0 of The Hunger Games Simulation is downloadable here, and includes the following additions over the previous version 2.5 that was released in October 2013:

  • New Landscapes: Play in a "Catching Fire" style clock arena. Climb over rolling hills, and experience a gradual day/night cycle. Head downhill or dig deep enough and you can find water. Play in mixed terrain arenas, such as half sandy desert and half rocky wasteland.
  • New Customizations: Set number of Districts (1-13), and number of tributes per District (e.g. play games with over 200 opponents). Assign names to tributes (e.g. "Katniss"  instead of "District 12 Female"), and select hairstyles. Try out a special wraparound torus arena that goes on forever.
  • New Items: Blowtorch weapon can be used to dismantle the Cornucopia walls, burn down trees, or melt unwanted items. Guns and grenades are powerful weapons very rarely available from sponsors. Armor reduces damage from enemy hits, and nightvision goggles allow seeing in darkness. You can even reuse sponsor gift parachutes to glide through the air.
  • New Enemies: Some trees contain "tracker jacker" wasp nests. Chop down the tree and they'll sting whoever's nearby making them hallucinate! Feast events draw remaining tributes back together to fight. Rebel against the Capitol, and escape from the arena (if you can figure out how. :)

Hey Cruiser, can I suggest making traps? Another use for nets could be to drop them near a tree and if something steps on it, its entangled and rises in the air. Its harder to get out of, and if you're high up you take minor fall damage.

Or, make new items like wires, snares, bear claws, electrocution or fire?

I just won the ultimate game and this was the craziest thing ever. It didn't felt like the hunger games at one part, just a society hunting and gathering food. It was crazy. Yet, starvation and a war between district 1/4 ended the career alliance, leaving my sister (A random girl who I have done a suicide pact) and I in the cornupia. That's when the mutts attacked us. Not the normal 2, 18. A pack of wolf rended to asunder most of the rare tributes surviving in the mountains. Then, they killed everything in sight in the plain where was the half destroyed cornupia. Never give blowtorch to a district 13 tribute. Allying with the career was the best thing I could have done, as a district 8 girl, my skills in healing and dodging were great. Having a helmet and later the body armor saved me countless of times.
The ultimate mode is the best thing ever.

Congratulations on winning the Ultimate arena! :) (Press Shift+F2 then enter "U" to play it.) Yeah, with a Career pack of over 50 tributes, allying with them is wise! With well over 200 tributes seeking gear, the Cornucopia will be completely empty, so the Blowtorch and Pick become useful so you can make new Spears and Bricks.

The ultimate arena is a desert to emphasize its consistent challenge: Little cover except the occasional pokey cactus, and little water.

Though, why the ultimate mode is always a desert?

Also for anyone who doesnt understand the alliance coding, 1-0 is D1-D10. ABC is 11 12 13 and M is Mutts. The ! is used instead of the number to choose what districts are in this alliance.

Cruiser, what are the other codes to determine AI behavior?

Each District is determined by the character at that position. There are 3 codes: Any symbol like one of "!@#$^*()" means a District is aggressive and always runs toward Cornucopia/Feasts. A capital letter or number like one of "ABC123" means a District's tributes randomly pick whether to be aggressive or timid. A lower case number like "abcdef" is timid and runs away.

Also, if two characters are the same, then those two Districts start out allied. There's no official mapping of characters 1-0 to D1 to D10, as that's just a way to make it easy to see which character position is which. For example, "!!3!567890ABCM" behaves identically in every way to "$$Z$YXWVUTSRQP".

The behavior for the Catching Fire book/movie, with D1&2 aligned and aggressive, and D4,6,7,8,11,12 aligned and normal, is "@@XX5XXX90XXCM". :)

Doesn't that mean you can only have one big alliance if you use the ! To determine who is in the alliance?

Well, I made the alliance to protect Katniss. Needless to say I lost many allies early due to districts one and two who rushed the cornucopia.11, 8 and Mags were finished off before the rest of us escaped the cornucopia. They stuck near me. 10 attacked the corn with rocks until realizing they stood no chance, retreated with the careers chasing them. I bought my alliance to the corn and we got a few good weapons. 10's cannons shot and the morphlings died too. The careers came back, killig Wiress, Beetee and Blight. I shot Cashmere and killed her which forced them back to retreat. Finnick was lucky though and killed Brutus. Peeta fetched my arrows from the others and gave all but one to me. Then the mutts came and did major damage to me and johanna, but not enough to kill us. Enoboria destroyed district 5 alone with spears and then the other mutts killed district 9. The feast happened, drawing the careers back to the cornucopia so we picked off Brutus. Then I accidentally drowned but the game was to interesting. Enoboria also took out Johanna, but Finnick speared her. Finnick and Peeta were the only two remaining. Peeta ran quickly into a mutt and Finnick followed. Finnick attacked the Mutt while Peeta ran but the Mutt killed Finnick so Peeta won. It was really a fun game to watch and play in.

Cool game story! Peeta won, just as Katniss wanted in "Catching Fire". :) For those who want to try out an alternate Catching Fire storyline themselves, do Shift+F2 and enter "Q" for the 3rd Quarter Quell based arena. Also press ' (single quote) and enter "75" (for 75th HG) for both tribute names and hairstyles. Finally to start with the large non-Career alliance protecting Katniss, press "Enter" and type: $ZAlly '@@XX5XXX90XXCM' (And start a new game afterward.)
