Running through more stress tests to find any weaknesses that we need to shore of for the Tech Demo

Posted by on

Over the weekend we got a chance to do some testing with quite a few vessels in the engine and put together a quick set of tests to see how the engine handles the new particle effects in relation to both the weapon fire and the collision particles. Overall it seemed quite robust:

In all, using the base engine and all LOD0 level models along with hundreds of thousands of other assets rendered on the level, we maintained around 30-40fps on average without much jitter or other issues. We then took that to another level and added more particles and effects through weather:

Again, the results were immensely positive with all 52 ships battling in heavy weather with full rendering and no culling taking place, we were able to keep a solid 25fps spiking up to 50. All testing was done in the SDK development mode and likely would have been slightly better in the actual game play directly. We were looking for some results and we got em!

System Specs:
Intel i5 3570k
16gb Corsair DDR3
EVGA nVidia 660 GTX 2GB
Windows 8.1
CryEngine SDK 3.5.8

Loving it! I'm really astonished on how you are able to find the time to do all those things I mean WOW! You guys have made so much progress in so little time! I'm sure the Cry engine plays a big role in that too but honestly, a playable first stage ''dogfight'' module, is coming sooner than I thought! Maybe even this summer!
Keep it coming you guys!

Using CryEngine has a lot to do with the fast progress. The SDK is very intuitive after you get over the first hurdle of knowing the lingo (I am an application developer by trade so this is all new to me).

The first demo will be fairly simple. One small island with some assets that are interactible, some events and commands that you can complete, and hopefully several ships to interact with. It may have some battling going on but most likely without the crew added at that time. We are still searching for a character modeler to work up the assets for that.

All music is original. We just had our artist, Flannery, come back with several new pieces. Look forward to them in coming videos as we set up a testing island to play with/on.
