Have your say; New logo; Programmers wanted
Here is a quick summary of recent events and the situation as it stands, with regards to the PiratesAhoy! community's ambitious indie project, Hearts of Oak: Conquest of the Seas.
We want your input!
Recently, our team has had differing opinions over what kind of content we should include, and how it should be presented in normal gameplay and storylines or quests. So, we decided to publish a short survey for you, our fans, to voice your opinions regarding a few key points of discussion. We would also like to take this opportunity to find out what kind of hardware you have (or will have), to give us an idea of the boundaries we should keep in mind while developing the game.
UPDATE 21/09/2013: The survey is now officially CLOSED.
A huge thanks to everyone who participated in shaping the future of this project. We are extremely grateful. :)
New logo design
After much debating about the art style we want to aim for, we have settled on a new logo which represents a minimalist, contemporary design philosophy. This was first shown off in part by the interface concept art we posted, and has continued to show in our latest concept work. Here's the full logo as it now looks:
Programmers wanted! UDK experience preferable!
At present, only one of our active programmers has experience in writing UnrealScript, and unfortunately he is bogged down with other work, so progress on prototyping various game systems is extremely slow. Therefore, we're stepping up recruitment to ask for more programmers to join our efforts.
We're looking for the following qualities:

Please remember we can only accept VOLUNTEERS; we cannot offer payment at this time.
If you wish to apply to join the team, please visit our recruitment forum and introduce yourself.
If you're not a programmer, you can still help by spreading the word! If you know someone who might be interested in the project, please do point them in our direction.
It should be noted that we have several talented 3D and 2D artists that are hard at work producing the game's assets; you can see some of our renders and concept art showing off recent work.
We are still recruiting for these posts, so if you have experience with 3D modelling, 2D texture work or user interface design, head on over to our recruitment forum and let us know!

Cool!
Submitted my survey; it'd be interesting to know how people favored certain things, I hope you publish those results when everything's all said and done.
You can now view the results live via this link: Docs.google.com
I find that interesting : D
It lets us see pretty much what youll be going for, sort of.
Question though, has this really helped? xD i noticed alot of people put 10 on everything but extreme fantasy xD
Well back on the forums, we had previously been making assumptions of what our fans might want, in comparison to what our various devs want, and there were some areas we couldn't agree on. So we decided to settle things the scientific way. :P
Plus, some of the results are actually surprising. I didn't expect people to be so enthusiastic about realism. (Though the extreme fantasy results don't surprise me)
The hardware question is particularly useful, too. Again, I don't think any of us expected so many people to have very capable PCs!
Yeah, alot of people seem to like to upgrade their pc just to play the really cool new games, like bioshock infinity for example. Its also a neat feeling to run on super high graphix like its nothing xD
The realism wasnt much of a shock to me, since i played aop2 and potc with their mods set to as real as possible xD
However... I will put this out here.. Ships and Airships, gatling cannons, and steampunk galore ... That would be one hell of a pirates game. Should write that off for another game. xD that would be freakin awesome!

An Air Pirates game, eh? Could be interesting. Wouldn't be OUR game though.
Too right it wouldn't be our game, because it's already been done (airships, at least): Ludocraft.com :P
Submitted the survey, tho sadly my computer is nowhere near the minimum requirements for the game :(
What will you need to upgrade? Mine is cpu speed, and video card, which i was already going to be upgrading anyway xD
Everything actually...my computer is 8 years old :)
oh cheese! No wonder xD you need an upgrade anyway xD Even my old pc is old and needs it, and its only 4 years old xD
This looks worth tracking :p I'm really looking forward to those survey results!
We'll definitely be analysing the results and post here once we know more. At the moment though, we need as many people to participate as possible.
We're up to 127 completions so far, which isn't bad per se, but I'd like to see a LOT more. Our PotC modpack (https://www.moddb.com/mods/new-horizons/downloads/build-14-beta-23-light) was downloaded over 3000 times!
If anyone can help spread the word on this, please do! And if you've got any suggestions on where else to post this, don't shy away from letting us know. ;-)
Have you thought of putting up some cheap ads on game sites and other places?
We made a decision to leave money out of this altogether.
Done with the survey. I'll be sure to tell my brother as well, since he's the one that convinced me to take a look at this in the first place.
This looks amazing I can't wait.
With the gameplay I think a more realistic or a more arcade option would be cool.
Any idea on when the first release of this may be? I'm so excited!!
If everything goes well, we might have a very basic demo available sometime during the Summer, but we can't make any promises yet.
