Hearts of Oak: Conquest of the Seas is a non-commercial PC game being developed by PiratesAhoy!, and is to become the historical seafaring game to end them all! Fun, realistic gameplay on land and at sea, set during the Age of Sail, will provide extensive free play, exciting scripted storylines and intense multiplayer scenarios.
Trunks518 has been busy developing the Chart View for the first game version, which will let the player navigate and engage in basic trading. It will also allow switching to full 3D sailing mode when entering combat or nearing towns, but this feature is not yet finished.
Looks very nice! How do you generate it? How much of it is fixed/hand-drawn, how much of it is variable?
Currently it is a large static image of a French 17th century map, but that will undoubtedly change. I'd expect the final map to be generated based on the game world itself, though we haven't finalised how we're going to do that, yet.
Do you mean something along the lines of how Age of Wonder's map works? Though it is tile/iso-based, the way it works and displays is really neat. When you zoom out enough, the map goes from normal iso view to an hand-drawn map with more icon elements (seamlessly). Though I'd not expect it to be seamless.
Looks great!
