Oh my god, i can not believe this. He really wanted to create some other cra...ähh "mods".
While its something that'd be great, theres a few problems:
1) You're using the IP of Bungie/Microsoft - its been shown in the past that they often stomp on stuff such as this, particularly if you don't ask.
2) You're also illegally using the Unreal2 engine - its not a free engine, its commercial, as stated in the EULA when you installed that there demo.
Not that i'm saying this wouldn't be great, its just that you're very, very likely to get a Cease & Desist order from one of the three companies in question here.
Well, someone "told on me" so game canceled.
And, like Elementalist said, i have done a whole hell of a lot of work, and im shut down.
Expect me back with a new Engine and a new game plan within the year.
Know what's sad?
You didn't make ****...
You stole everything from Hce.halomaps.org
Sorry if I sound rude but I cannot tolerate people stealing others hard work.
Are you ******* retarded?
My friend made those models for me, *******.
Those pictures are the REFERENCE PICTURES, what he used to ******* make them, and they looked pretty ******* damn close, so, seriously, STFU and GTFO
Epic and Bungie will jump on you like stink on poo.
yeah...too bad XD
Wow! Thats my dream!!!
So, um, you're building it on Unreal 2 (or 2.5?).
Does that make this a mod of UT2k3/2k4? Or did you actually manage to get a license for the engine?
Its not a mod,
Yes, its my dream too. Thats why i've started this :)
Again, so that means you've actually got a license for Unreal 2?
$350,000 is quite a bit to drop on a game that has the possibility of being denied continuation from Microsoft... Just saying...
Why are you so interested in this?
Ive got a demo, and ive extended the possibilities of using it, if you knew anything, you'd know this isnt a commercial game, because its clearly labeled INDIE, and you dont need a license to make an indie game.
Not to be rude but.. are you assuming of torrented it? Because, if so, i dont even have a torrent software on my PC, never mind have torrented a 350k program!
Dont make assumptions, because then the *** and the Ump will shun you.
Huh, never heard that one. I always heard to assume is to make an *** out of u and me. :P
No, I'm not suggesting you torrented it. I've just never heard of as you say, an 'Indie license' going for free of Unreal Engine 2.
In fact, what I've read... And actually, now have found for your enjoyment... The demo license states:
"YOU MAY NOT USE THE RUNTIME SOFTWARE TO DEVELOP GAMES. YES, I KNOW THIS SOUNDS NASTY BUT LET'S FACE IT, EPIC`S PRIMARY MEANS OF INCOME COMES FROM GAME SALES AND ENGINE LICENSING. WE WOULD BE SHOOTING OURSELVES IN THE FOOT IF WE ALLOWED AN ENGINE WE GAVE AWAY FOR FREE TO TRAMPLE OUR PRIMARY MEANS OF INCOME. SORRY, BUT IF YOU WANT TO DEVELOP A GAME PLEASE DEVELOP IT AS A MOD FOR ONE OF OUR EXISTING RETAIL GAME PRODUCTS OR CONTACT US REGARDING A PROPER ENGINE LICENSE."
They wrote it in caps, not me.
Udn.epicgames.com
You've found a twisty legal way to get out of this? Or...?
But realize, the 350k is for the commercial license. theres a big difference between indie and commercial. they cant do that much because they cant afford it, and microsoft will be up there *** about putting halo on the PC. They dont need to do that to make a free game to give to people for FREE! if they planned on going commerial, yea, theres not an exact point here unless they had at least a million here to buy the privlage to use halo from microsoft
Uh, yes, there's an exact point here. The exact point isn't about Microsoft, it's about the Unreal Engine. Indie or not, the license states the demo runtime may not be used to make games. Which is apparently what ~c0dy~ is doing. *shrug*
I wish him all luck, but... That's what it says.
Do you want me to make this? Do you want me to cancel it? because, im not.
If i keep getting complaints, i can easily stop making this and get alot of people ****** at you.
So be it.
Sounds to me like he's actually trying to do you a favour; you'd do well to listen.
I actually would love for you to make it. I'm a fair fan of the Halo-verse, and I played HaloUT for quite a while, even though it was painfully incomplete and had lots of issues.
However, I do think it important that you know just what you're getting yourself into. I mean, by making it of Halo alone could cause issues. Just look at Halogen, the mod for Command and Conquer Generals. Not even independent, just a mod, and it got shut down. Though, from what I've read, it kind of sounds like if you never tell Microsoft they'll just look the other way.
But like I said, it's not Microsoft that's the real issue. Infringing upon the license of the UE2 demo is. Though who knows, perhaps Epic takes the same "If you don't tell us we won't bother" kind of stance.
As your plans are obviously quite large, it would suck hard if you did so much work and got shut down. But is 100% and completely your choice.
I don't know by what you mean when you say you 'extended the possibilities' of using it, but that kind of sounds like you might know some C++. You could use a free open source engine like Irrlicht, Ogre3D, or Horde3D if so.
And um... Nice e-threat? What are they going to do, comment my profile? And I'm not complaining. I'm pointing out to you that what you're doing is basically asking for trouble down the road.
