Project Reality: BF2 Installation Guide
Uninstall all previous versions of PR:BF2 before installing PR!
If you are on older versions of Windows, make sure to install DirectX 9,.NET framework 4.6 and Visual C++! This otherwise makes you unable to load the game.
Disable your Anti-Virus during installation and white-list the PR Installation folder afterwards.
Check this thread for more common Launch issues if you experience any.
Step 1. Download
A) Using the Download Assistant
The fastest and most user-friendly way to download and install PR:BF2 is using the official Download Assistant.
The Download Assistant will download the installer using the Torrent protocol. So make sure this isn't blocked by your ISP.
Simply download the Download Assistant from our PR:BF2 Download Section and follow the instructions in the application.
B) Using the HTTP Download links
To download simply through your browser choose one the ModDB or direct HTTP mirror downloads (everything outside of Torrent and Download Assistant). You only need to use one link. It will download the installer folder as a ZIP. Please use Windows in-build zip tools, 7ZIP or Winrar to extract the installer folder before installing.
C) Using the direct Torrent download
If you downloaded the Torrent, this is NOT the full install. You use the small .torrent file with a BitTorrent client to actually download the full .iso file. We recommend qBittorrent. The Torrent is the recommended download method in order to avoid corrupt downloads. Once the torrent is downloaded through your selected Torrent software, you will be presented with a folder with all the installation files. Move on to step 2 after the application finishes the download.
Step 2. Installation
The Download Assistant will allow you to start the installer once the download is completed. The HTTP (after extraction) and Torrent version of the download comes in the form of a folder with all the installation files. In order to install it, you simply run the installer it contains (setup.exe).
It is strongly recommended that you close all open applications when installing PR:BF2.
After installation is complete, depending on the choices you selected in the installer, you can either launch Project Reality: BF2 from the desktop shortcut or your start menu.
Congratulations, you have now installed Project Reality: BF2 and are ready to play. If you have any confusion over these installation steps, please don't hesitate to post a support thread in our Support Forums.

Just to clarify, it's actually Glu Mobile behind all this debacle. But it's alright, though. Origin isn't exactly the best platform around, let alone EA as a publisher. :)
It is sad when they are being blamed for the one thing that is not their fault. Credit and punishment where it is due.

You gotta remember that all their servers running Gamespy can now be updated and reused for future game servers.
EA did not choose to put down the GameSpy service, but yes they chose not to look for alternatives because it probably isn't cost effective. They also did not lie, they put out that they would look for ways to save it but concluded that they would not do it afterwards.
Try to see it from an enterprise view, it helps.

Seeing it from an enterprise view is pretty much exactly like how a realist would see it, to be honest. A realist would say: "Well, EA needs to make money, which is why they really didn't try to look for alternatives as it isn't cost effective."
Soof, a realist would say: "Let's see... They ****** up countless games and they said they will find an alternative route, but after all they done, they lied again and just shut every down."
I was sort of exaggerating and I know EA wasn't the cause but they were bystanders giving a blind eye. They couldn't let go of their money fetish for just one time.

Yeah its super to see these communities pull together to fix the games the developers couldn't.

I actually noticed that Gamespy supported games still seem to work for me. I can still see Arma server listings and Battlefield 2 still works.
Yea it weird, maybe it take then a bit more time to cut them off?
They just haven't cut it yet, they said June 30 is when they're shutting down the servers.

This page was posted 2 months after the IGN article, I don't see what the date has to do with it. That is, unless you're presuming I'm aware of some other article in which they rescinded that statement, which I have not found.

I never liked GameSpy, it was so glitchy and games never ran properly online. It does not surprise me that it finally died. Tunngle is GameSpy done right IMHO.
It astonishing how can amateurs can do their best and even on bf2 example, re-enable rank funtions. Simply cool.
Companies like to embellish their importance by making things seem impossible without their say so. It always comes down to a few resourceful coders, or that company eventually caving in to pressure.

Apps like evolve may help you connect with your friends, but yes I believe FH have developed a GS work around.
